Not Hard to give him a decent chance in the 3.10

Today’s Fortune for a fiver

15 p ew Lucky 15 & 25p ew acca

Green Howard 2.20 @ 14/1

Mia Cara 3.20 @ 9/1

Gorran Haven 2.10 @ 5/1

Hardrock Davis 3.10 @ 12/1

Selected Hexham- heavy ground on this stiff and undulating track

2.30 Bandol is a most likeable type and remains unexposed over fences. His mark looks manageable  but this is his first try on a track as stiff as this .He’s up against mostly exposed handicappers and the risk is worth taking at nice odds.

¾ pt win Bandol @ 4/1

4.00 Cleve Cottage is a strong staying front runner, but races off a testing mark today and this track is vey differet form what he is used to. All of Gibbstown, Smugglers Stash, The Bishop and Hattons Hill have winning form over C&D, but at the weights and on the likely very testing ground .

¼ pt win Smugglers Stash @ 11/2

Suggested Hecham placepot

Southwell- good to soft on this flat and quite quick track

2.10 Very tricky opener , but back over fences The wexfordian make no appeal as previous runs over the larger obstacles have been huge flops. The likeable Duhallowcountry is only a pound higher for a gritty success at his beloved Sedgefield, but this more conventional track may find him wanting. The most interesting runner is Gorran Haven who has been pitched into some quite hot novice chases and will find this task much easier. He is trained by carloine Bailey, who certainly knows the time of day here and has great strike rate here. It’s the stable’s only runner here and certainly worth a play.

½ pt win Gorran Haven @ 5/1

3.10  Fattsota was once a most useful flat horse , but did struggle of course as the years went by, and has also become very hard to win with. His hurdles mark of 123 is flattering and is always going to struggle in novice hurdles giving weight away, as he did scramble home  to a rare win at Mussleburgh. He’s odds on for this , but is not the type to take short odds about, so win or lose, he’s not  a good bet. There are  couple of goos stables who have runners here , who are all unexposed and open to improvement. Hardrock Davis runs in famous colours for fellow scouser Tom George, who’s having  a terrific season , and  as usual is bang in form. This one is bred to be quite useful, but hasn’t showed it yet. Two Ok bumper runs last season was followed by a recent run in quite a decent evemnt at Chepstow, where he showed up for quite a way until weakening  out of it. The stable has 35% strike rate , while the excellent Adrian heskin rides the track at 50%, and these together have  a win % here of 71 % . The tip is blinkered first time and the stable has used these aids effectively in the past. Attractive bet.

½ pt ew Hardrock Davis @ 12/1

3.40 The likes of Boher Lad and Generous Helpings are weighted out of this while the longer trip is not at all sure to suit the in form  Fifty Bob. With HInest Intent a most doubtful stayer, this is down to  Twist of Ginge , Midnight Gem and Derrick D’Anjou, and I’m with the latter who stayed on well to be  a somewhat distant 3rd last time at Wetherby, but is bred to be well suited by this longer trip.

½ pt win Derrick D’Anjou @ 9/2

4.10 Brillare Momento did well in some very much above average bumpers and was bang in with a chance until falling late on  in quite a deep novice hurdle where all the placed horses have done well since. She really should be winning this with ease.

¾ pt win Brillare Momento @ 6/4

4.40 The likeable Riddlestown has a bit to do off this mark and also dropping in trip, despite always going well here. IT’s likely that Champion Chase will find this much easier then the recnt novice hurdles he’s been trying, but this longer trip is far from sure to suit. Sauvignon chase home an Ok one here last time over C&D off the same mark, but on softer ground . This is a race for conditional jockeys and Lewis Gordon takes the ride, who is struggling for winners, but I’m hoping the horse can do the work for him.

½ pt win Sauvignon @ 9/2

Suggested Southwell placepot

Selected Wolver- all weather- tapeta

2.20 Irish raider goes for the track double but he’s up in the weights, down in trip and also operating from a wide draw. This is a race for apprentice jockeys and they are hardly likely to be going a strong gallop with no conformed front runners. Hold Firm is now high enough in the weights, and his best form is on polytrack. He can race prominently , but is another with an outside draw. Green Howard is now a 9yo and not anywhere near the good handicapper he once was , but there has been bits of encouragement form recent tries on this surface and last time out at Newcastle , he tracked the leaders , looking threatening , only to weaken out of it at that stiff track. He’s down to a really low mark, he has the best of the draw, and the energetic megan Nicholls takes the ride. I’m hopingshe takes a handy sit as I can’t see anything coming from way back to land this.

½ pt ew Green Howard @ 14/1

3.20 Dark Destroyer won well when last seen 2 months ago , but has a fist try on this surface , and could have been luckier in the draw. Revel has also been unlucky in the draw and has a bit to prove down in trip and on this surface. Sidewinder ran well when 3rd over C&D recently in quite  good event. He has been lucky in the draw , and has clear chance, but remains a maiden after 9 tries. Things didn’t go as planned for Mia Cara two starts back but either side has posted good efforts, including one on the Newcastle tapeta. Looks a nice ew bet. Both Bazwind and Naupaka may struggle for pace down in trip and up in grade

½ pt ew Mia Cara @ 9/1

4.20 Only 6 go and four of them are front runners !! All of Cruisetothelimit, LOumarin, Penny Dreadful and Pearl Noir ate sure to bomb out and will of course hamper each other’s chances, but in faireness to them all, they are all on good marks, and all run this C&D well. You would usually be backing the hold up horse blind here, and that  is why See Vermont is the 2/1 fav. Even though he has stacks in his favour and Danny Tudhope rides, with only 1 win in 18 months, that is just too short for me .
