Selected Newmarket- soft ground on this undulating , stiff and galloping track
1.45 A really tough opener compounded by the fact that few have raced on soft ground before. Miltown Star comes here on the back of a good 3rd here off this mark over a furlong further, but the drop in trip looks a smart move and trusted on the ground.
¼ pt ew Milltown Star @ 8/1
2.20 This represents a severe test of stamina for these juveniles, 10 furlongs on a stiff track on soft ground, so the key factor is of course staying power. None of these have ever raced at this distance , but plenty have been seeing out slightly shorter trips well. Subjectivist is closely related to St Leger 2nd the very wonderful Sir Ron Priestley , so this trip should not be an issue and has been shaping as the trip would suit well. He also handles soft ground and despite so many dark horses in this , has to be worth a good bet at such long odds.
½ pt ew Subjectivist @ 16/1
2.55 A good quality Group 3 and the fav is the hat-trick seeking Molathem but I have doubts about this speedily bred type being at his best up in trip on the mud. Like the previous race this is full of dark horses and like the previous race I’m going for a Mark Johnston longshot in Dontaskmeagain. He’s done nothing wrong and is 2 from 2 and this front runner impressed last time at Beverley beating a good field on soft ground . he may have company up front but is bred to see out this longer trip well and is a lively longshot.
¼ pt ew Dontaskmeagain @ 25/1
3.30 The Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes and this season’s juvenile star , Pinatubo, 5 from 5 and one of the highest rated juveniles ever ! puts his unbeaten record and reputation on the line . The trip is no problem so all that can beat him is the ground, but his sire has plenty of soft ground winners, but there has to be safer 1/3 shots if you are going all in. It’s a good field and there’s plenty to like about Monarch of Egypt to make him a lively longshot. He’s one of the highest rated of the others and his best run came on The Curragh mud when giving the unbeaten Siskin a fright. He struggled next time in Group 1 company on fast ground but is bred for this trip and his style of running gives him every chance of outrunning his odds.

Selected Chepstow- soft ground on this undulating, galloping and quite stiff track
2.10 Not a deep juvenile event and the Paul Nicholls trained Sir Psycho is sure to have been well educated and is likely to be hard to beat in this, but is only evens.
2.45 PREMIUM RACE
3.20 Cloth Cap did ever so well last year culminating in a magnificent 3rd in the Scottish Grand National . He came to hand early last year and remains on a workable work . Softer ground could test, but very fair odds considering his quality.
¼ pt win Cloth Cap @ 5/1
3.55 Reserve Tank was arguably the most improved hurdler around last season and hard to see him failing to open his account over fences at the first try. Bit short for a punt.
4.30 This is absolutely wide open and the short list is very long !! Garo de Juley won this last year and is only 3 pounds higher. He comes here fit after a decent effort over fences and softer ground no big issue.
¼ pt ew Garo De Juley @ 33/1
5.05 Charbel is another who attempts to defend his crown and this classy chaser is only 3 pounds higher. His form tailed off last season, but he was taking on the best around. He goes well fresh and soft ground no issue. Could well outclass these.
¼ pt winCharbel @ 3/1
Selected York- soft ground on this flat and galloping track
2.05 A short priced fav in Convict who’s certainly on a workable mark and as he’s a half brother to the very useful Hamish, who dotted up here yesterday in the mud, he should take the longer trip on soft ground very much in his stride, but the bookies agree and is only even money.
2.40 The short priced fav for tis Class 1 juvenile sprint is Lampang who runs in the much see King power colours who have had chunks of success this season. He’s looked good winning both of his starts , but both came in humble company , and at the odds not hard to look elsewhere. Cobra Eye could be anything but the consistent Huraiz could have an issue with the ground as bred . I was with Orlaith when she landed a Class 1 at Newbury at long odds. The ground was soft that day and the one she beat, Al Raya went on to land a Group 3 in France. She comes here on the back of a respectable effort on fast turf at Ayr and the return to soft ground could see her running a big race at big odds.
½ pt ew Orlaith @14/1
3.15 The classy Forest Ranger is of interest dropping into handicap company, but would do well winning off a mammoth mark of 110, especially as his latest runs have been disappointing, but soft ground does suit , so not ruled out. Johnny drama ran a cracker over C&d a few starts back when attempting to make all and only found the useful Forest of Dean too good, and that good run came from a bad draw. His career best run in Ireland came on soft ground and with SDs riding , could make every post a winning post. The rest all have it to prove on the ground.
¼ pt win Johnny Drama @ 11/4
3.50 A typical massive field York sprint handicap and looking at the racing styles, with 4 front runners drawn low to middle that looks the place to be, as it was yesterday. It’s unlikely that the front runners will escape but if any of Soldiers Field, Lancelot Du Lac or louid de Palma , got a length on the field, could be hard to reel in. Summerghand has been a model of consistency this year , hitting the frame in all of the top big field handicaps and this late player, drawn nicely , ticks plenty of boxes and looks likely to be in the mix again and this could well be a deserved win.
½ pt ew Summerghand @ 9/1
4.25 Crystal ball needed as none of the main contenders have ever tried soft ground,
5.00 PREMIUM RACE
5.35 The hat-trick seeking Ayutthayahas claims despite the 4 pound hit but preference is for the lightly raced lord of the Rock who’s a right mudlark and goes well fresh and runs this type of track well and Graham Lee is 1 from 1 aboard.
½ pt ew Lord of the Rock @ 12/1
