Today’s Fortune for a fiver
6 50p doubles, 4 25p trebles & £1 acca
Saint Leo 3.20 @ 10/3
Esprit Du Large 2.15 @ 2/1
This girl 5.00 @ 11/4
Risk and Roll 4.10 @ 3/1
Sandown – soft ground on this stiff and galloping track.
1.20 A weak looking juvenile handicap hurdle and the form horse is clearly the short priced fav The Knot is tied, who was prolific on the flat, including in the mud, exhibiting a good attitude in his races. He did very well against older horses in a handicap last time splitting a pair who have run well since. His mark is no gimme, and a bit to prove on a stiff track, but should get away with it in a weak field.
1/2pt Win The Knot Is Tied @ 5/4
1.50 PREMIUM RACE
2,25 Quite a few of these like to front run and I’m chancing one of them wont have to fight too hard to dominate early on. Totterdown goes off like the clappers, so it wouldn’t be prudent for others to follow his example and he made all over C&d earlier in the season on deep ground , and followed that up with another good effort over C&D when 3rd. There was plenty to like about his recent comeback spin at Chepstow on ground lively enough , and if he gets his own way up front, this determined sort could be hard to pick up.
1/4pt ew Totterdown @ 22/1

4.10 Both delire D’Estruvil and Enola Gaye have stamina concerns around this stiff C&d in the mud and I’m not impressed by the profile of Mr McCoo. If you forget Risk and Roll’s latest run he’s certainly worth a play with good recent runs in the book at Ascot and Exeter, and his flop last time was probably down to a failed experiment with front running.
1/2pt Win Risk and Roll @3/1
4.45 Not a strong finale and you can’t argue with the bookies making the Kings Writ the fav despite know being on a testing mark, but hard to fancy his rivals.
1/2pt Win The kings writ @ 7/4
Selected Wolver- all weather- tapeta
2.05 A valuable Class 2 handicap , but on close inspection, hard to fancy many. Pactolus is in terrific form and goes very well over C&D but is now on a tough mark, but connections reach for 5 pound claimer Ben coen, who is based in Ireland , has very little experience here and hasn’t ridden a winner for some time. Silver Quartz is going really well , but the shorter trip could be an issue so I’m with the much improved Pinnata, whose 4 timer bid was foiled last time, but still ran really well and a return to this C&D is in his favour.
1/4pt Win Pinnata @ 5/1
3.15 Another good contest , a class 1 and at the weights the in form Oh This Is us is the one to beat , but is poorly drawn and you have to trust his ability to act on the surface. Documenting absolutely sluiced in last time in a C&D handicap , and is now rated 11 pounds higher, he could be up to it. I’m trying the reliable mare Islnd Of life, who goes for the 4 timer and last time out was a career best and it came over C&D.
1/4pt ew Island Of Life @ 11/2
3.50 A number of in form types with the unbeaten Dahawi up in trip and trying tapeta for the first time, up against Nubough who won well last time and the hat-trick seeking Bay Of Naples, a progressive sort who on over C&d last time . He’s well drawn for a front runner and very determined in the finish.
1/4pt Win Bay of naples @ 3/1
5.00 Thawry only just scrambled home ahead of dommesen at Newcastle, when both were played pretty late. I much prefer the chance of the prominent races This Girl whose gone close a few times over C&d off higher marks.
1/2pt Win This Girl @11/4
Selected Hereford- good to soft on this flat and sharp track
1.40 I’m chancing the capable Shroughmore Lass who does shape a the longer trip will suit.
1/4pt Win Shroughnore Lass
2.15 Not a deep novice event and the two penalised runners could have this to themselves but clear preference is for Espirt du Large who looked good winning in the Uttoxeter mud snd backed that up with a good run in Haydock grade 2 event and this longer trip looks no issue. Hus rival is the consistent Newtown Boy but this one has question marks at this longer trip on soft ground.
3/4pts Win Esprit du Large @ 2/1
2,50 Acid test for the in form Doc Caver going up markedly in trip while Kings Monarch’s win did come out of the blue, so another I’d rather just watch today. Skewiff won well last time but at the weights, Overworkedandunderpaid is on a good mark and has some form making him of interest .
1/4pt ew Overworkedandunderpaid @ 12/1
3.25 good chance for the consistent chase End Charlie for a deserved win following a series of placed efforts, but 6/4 to short for me for one so hard to win with
4.00 the likeable top and drop will give it a right go but runs right handed have not been good in the past. Hepburn did well last time while last year’s winner Misty Mai looks as she’s been prepared for this. Maybe plenty has run some Ok races of late off higher marks, so a nice longshot.
1/4pt ew Maybe Plenty @ 11/1
4.35 There is a stack of early pace in this with 4 front runners and this can only help the down in trip and back to form town Parks. This sharp C&d is not ideal, but the strong pace will bring his undoubted stamina into play late on.
1/2pt Win Town Parks @ 5/1
Selected Ayr- soft ground on this flat and galloping track
2.10 Welsh Rarebit ran well over C&D last time in similsr ground , which entitkes him to be bang on the premises today.
1/2pt Win welsh Rarebit @ 7/2
2.45 Emma baeg sluiced in over C&D last time returning from a long break, so may not be effective 2nd time back under a stiff penalty. Saying that, this is not a deep race and I’m chancing asking For answers, who has bits of Ok form and suggests the longer trip will help/
1/4pt Win asking for Answers @ 15/2
3.20 most of these are running on testing marks while the trip is on the short side for forest Des Aigles, Granville island and clan Legend. The ex-french Saint Leo did little wrong lsst time in stronger company and this looks a good opportunity.
3/4pt Win Saint Leo @10/3
3.55 The consistent Deriana Spirit looks good for another win, but evens too short.
4.30 Silva Eclipse continues to run well and despite the nudge up the weights and the drop in trip, this is likely to be run at a strong pace which will being his stamina into play.
1/2pt Win Silva eclipse @ 6/1
5.05 glittering love has won 5 of his last 6 and is a most determined sort, but stiff task at the weights today, but wouldn’t rule him out
Selected Kempton- all weather- polytrack
5.30 hardly a race for a serious punt as it’s the lowest grade of race, A Class 7, and to make it even harder it’s for apprentice jockeys, many of which very inexperienced Dalness Express goes well over C&D and in higher grade, but a wide draw makes it toughand while Alligator has been knocking on the door of late, he remains a maiden after 23 tries ! Storm Lightning won over C&D a few months back from a higher mark, and from an Ok draw, a nice dew play.
1/4pt ew storm Lightning @ 15/2
6.30 Easy to eliminate most of these for various reasons and it’s likely to be a straight fight between Surrey blaze and Singing Sheriff , who both come into this in Ok form at the trip and surface. There is no pacesetter which is a worry, so I’m playing a fc.
1/4pt rev fc Singing Sheriff- Surrey Blaze
7.00 Berrahri is a most likeable and tough front runner who comes here on the back of two wins in the snow at St moritz, but he’s no slouch here and is closely marched with the in form pair of nylon Speed and dono Di dio on recent form and from a decent draw could take a bit of catching . The fav is recent C&d winner Double Legend who would do very well to win up in the ratings and grade.
1/4pt EW Berrahri @ 12/1
7.30 it wasn’t long ago that swift Approval was running big races off higher marks than this, but of late has been unlucky in the draw in ALL of his races. The books are balanced tonight as he has the best of the draw , but does have to bounce back from a tame one last time. In a winnable event, certainly worth the risk.
1/2pt ew Swift Approval @ 7/1
8.00 Little boy Blue progressed well last year and did well enough on his recent comeback spin to be of interest from a good draw. The in form Treacherous continues to nudge up the weights, but does go very well here.
1/2pt ew Little Boy Blue @ 9/1
8.30 Nice seeing Oneofdem finally breaking his duck last time out and will try to make all again, but much harder in a deeper race carrying a penalty. He’ll also have unwanted company from Margies choice , and with Glory of paris’ racing style of getting busy in the last half of his races, the pace should be generous, which is good news for the consistent Scoffaw , who comes here on the back of another good run when a close 3rd over C&D. the fav is the lightly raced Merchant of Venice , but his opening handicap mark is far from generous.
1/2pt ew Scofflaw @ 8/1
