Selected Huntingdon- good ground on this flat and galloping track
2.45 On drying ground round this sharp C&D, not convinced by any of the market leaders in Coole Well, Espion De Saflo and Skandiburg , and the lightly raced Ecalir Des sablons could surprise. He well outran his odds when 2nd at around this trip at Winacnton on good ground and the likely stronger pace is in his favour.
¼ pt ew Éclair Des Sablons @ 10/1
3.15 Drying ground is no help to the consistent Zalvados, while the drop in trip can’t help the struggling Double Clever. The consistent Paddy’s poem is a prominent racer , whose only win came here. Drying ground not ideal, bit not too bad. Decent chance of making all .
½ pt win Paddy’s poem @ 3/1
3.50 A tougher ask for Lucky Lover boy on a tough mark on quicker ground , and with the majority of the others either returning from breaks or not running well, worth risking third Estate returning from a break. He’s not the hardiest of types and has had similar breaks before, and usually runs well on comeback races. He improved for the drop to this trip and his last run at this distance was an excellent close 2nd to the decent Snapdragon Fire at Ludlow on good ground, and that one is competitive nowadays off much higher marks. Nicely priced for a dabble.
¼ pt win third Estate @ 6/1
Selected Wetherby – good ground on this flat and galloping track
Just 3 plays here but my tips in the 1.50 & 4.00 are for members only
5.05 A pretty competitive contest, but wit so many returning from breaks, and usually needing their comeback runs, I like the look of the back to form Newtown Lad . He made all for a good win at Chepstow and followed that up with a very decent effort at Fontwell, again trying to make all, and the return to a galloping track very much in his favour . The drying ground is not perfect and the stable has had a few disappointments of late, also an easy lead may not be on, but has to be worth a dabble at very decent odds.
1/4pt Win newtown Lad @ 10/1
Selected Chelmsford City- all weather – polytrack
3.05 An interesting small field sprint handicap but quite easy to read as the well drawn front running and determined Emily Goldfinch looks good to set the pace and could take some reeling in.. After loking only modest, she took off big style last year, landing a hat-trick , the 3rd coming from way out of the weights , but still spread-eagled a good field at Newmarket. She hasn’t been disgraced in sny of her comeback spins and did well over C&d last time from a wide draw when she hsd to work very hard to get her ideal lead, and only tied up in the last few strides to be 4th of 8, just behind the running on Sweet and Dandy and ahead of the disappointing Rose Berry. With a far better race mske up, I like her chance of being away and gone. Goodnight Girl was massively progressive last year, and exhibited great battling skills. She is now on a tough mark and this sharp C&D could catch her out. It’s her first try on polytrack and she needed her early comeback spins last season.
½ pt win Emily Goldfinch @ 8/1
3.35 A valuable Class 2 event , a trial for the Kentucky Derby !! Aidan O’brien runs two with Achilles being the front runner for stable Number 1 US Michigan, who is progressing nicely but others have presently stronger form. Dark vision won his first 3 last year , but flopped on his final start in a winnable Group 3 when Bye Bye Hong Kong was a good 2nd, but both have a bit to prove up in trip and on the surface, Fanaar was progressive last year and looked good landing a Lingfield Class 1 event , so should be fine over C&D and gets the nod.
¼ pt win Fanaar @ 9/2
4.10 PREMIUM RACE
4.40 There’s a great deal of early pace on here which can’t be ideal for such fancied prominent racers in Tavener and The king’s Steed. The reliable viola Park comes here in top form and is well drawn. He’s been nudged up the weights but still gets the nod.
1/ pt win viola Park @ 4/1
5.15 PREMIUM RACE
Chelmsford City placepot
I’m having a couple of plays at limerick, where the going is good on this pretty easy track favouring front runners
3.40 All about Alfie is an in form consistent type with a good record at this track on good ground and a nice ew bet.
¼ pt ew All about Alfie @ 13/2
4.15 This will take little winning and preference is for youngster Leave your Mark, who shaped up OK in novice events on good ground over inadequate trips. He did well on his handicap debut at Leopardstown on ground softer than ideal and decent shout today.
¼ pt win Leave Your Mark @ 3/1
Selected Newcastle – all weather- tapeta. The track is stiff and galloping
6.00 I fear the boat may have gone as I was happy to play the well handicapped and back to form Grandee as he ran well at this trip last time and before that showed he handle this track. He’s the subject of a big gamble and is now only 7/4, which is plenty short enough with a win record as poor as his, just a small play
¼ pt win Grandee @ 7/4
6.30 A number of in form types in this open contest, but as most of these are hold up types, I am leaning towards the in form Strawberry Jack , who is 3 pound higher for his good 2nd at Kempton, but did well being front rank for most of the race, and the 3rd horse has won twice since. He is new to the surface and goes up in trip, but does make a 500 mile round trip for a stable with a good success rate here.
¼ pt win Strawberry Jack @ 6/1
7.00 Another wide open 3yo handicap and plenty of these have good form here. The pace is likely to come from lexicon and Havana Ooh Na Na, both drawn low, and I’m happy to play the well drawn Robeam, who was just behind Macs Blessing, Lexicon and Blazing dreams over C&D last time, but the likely stronger pace tonight will help this well treated strong finisher.
¼ pt win Robeam @ 8/1
7.30 Not much between almost all of these at the weights, with the one just ahead, recent southwell winner, whose present mark may flatter and of course this is a very different C&D. I’m chancing the lightly raced Midnight Vixen, who has been rated higher in the past and ran well in a handicap here last time on just her second start for a new stable.
1/4pt Win Midnight Vixen @ 6/1
