Today’s ( not really a) Fortune for a fiver
£5 treble- pays 3/1
Amade 2.00 5/6
Kachy 3.05 @ 4/6
Wissahickon 4.15 @ 1/3
Selected Lingfield- all weather- polytrack
I always look forward to this day as it’s essentially Champions Day on polytrack and some great racing anticipated from the best polytrack performers around
1.30 This is the only handicap of the day , but is a good quality Class 2. It’s for apprentices, so a few of these may well go for glory a bit early, or too late. The pace is likely to be set by the reliable and likeable Sha La La Lee, , but the wide draw is no help. Neither is the drop in trip or the nudge up the weights. Lion Hearted’s wining run began off a most lowly mark of 45, but 3 months later, and with 6 further wins from 7 starts, here he is on a mark of 86, but as he won last time off 83, not out of this. My idea of the winner is topweight Breathless times, whose career best run over this C&D and has a good rider aboard.
¼ pt win Breathless Times @ 9/2
2.00 The prolific French raider Amade has won his last 5 , including 3 career best runs over this trip , and hasn’t been hard pressed to be 3 from 3 at this distance. He’s a patiently ridden type and with Watersmeet sure to set a good pace, will have a good gallop to chase and looks one for short priced fav backers. He’s in today’s treble
2.30 Plenty of in form and reliable fillies and despite the wide draw, Heavenly Holly is interesting under Ryan Moore as her form is good and could get the run of the race up front. All of Castle Hill Cassie, Clon Coulis and Rasima have a bit to prove down in trip, so preference is for the progressive Crossing The line, 4 wins in her last 5 and beat a couple of decent ones last time.No issues with C&D.
¼ pt win Crossing The line @ 5/1
3.05 The Champion sprint and the worthy odds on fsv is the flying Kachy, who could have this won after a few furlongs as he bombs out and keeps it going really well . He’s 4 from 5 on synthetics, his only reversal coming in this race last year by the French trained City Light, but subsequent runs by that one , a narrow defeat in a group 1, is proof that he was just unlucky bumping into one, which is unlikely today. He may have a little bit of company up front by the totally outclassed Alsvinder, but that shouldn’t last long and every post a winning post. Another for the treble..
3.40 PREMIUM RACE
4.15 Wissahickon served notice that he was a serious racehorse with a right old demolition job in the Cambridgeshire and since then has landed a hat-trick over C&D , held up off the pace and winning as he liked every time and hard to see anything but a win today. Last leg of the treble
4.45 Arcanada is 3 from 4 over C&D and his only reversal came in this last year, when expected to go close, but was never traveling and trailed in near the back. This signalled a loss of form, and he hardly lifted a leg in subsequent runs, then he got it back together, over C&d with a smart win, from the front , off a mark of 103, impressive stuff. He comes here on the back of a good effort at Wolver, and if able to control this from the front , could go in again. Only the well drawn Salateen has a history of going on, but hasn’t been of late, so fingers crossed the fav can lead these a merry old dance.
¼ pt win Arcanada @ 8/1
Selected Newcastle- all weather- tapeta- The track is stiff and galloping
2.45 PREMIUM RACE
3.20 PREMIUM RACE
3.55 A red hot Class 2 handicap with some very interesting contenders. Forgiven Planet has taken off of late and was a ready winner at Kempton last time but is up 7 pounds, but the top stable of Roger Charlton knows the time of day here with 6 win from 12 runners ! so hard to rule out. Another top Southern stable with an interesting contender is William Haggas, who runs the totally unexposed Big Kitten. Slight preference is for Desert Fire, who’s been going very well on turf at Meydan and is Saeed bin Suroor’s only runner here today and is another with a good record here.
¼ pt win Desert Fire @13/2
4.25 Smarter hadn’t been showing much at all, but a switch to handicaps off a lowly mark saw a much improved run, winning at Southwell by a long looking 9 lengths, but has been shoved up a stone and this is a very different surface. I give gantier the nod over bo sampran as he’s effective on the surface and stays this trip.
¼ pt win Gantier @ 11/4
Selected Bath- good to firm on this sharp but stiff track
2.55 West End Charmer won 2 from 3 last year, including over C&D and as his rivals have a bit to prove at the trip and drying ground, could land the hat-trick.
¼ pt win West End Charmer @ 7/2
3.30 PREMIUM RACE
4.05 A good quality Class 1 sprint for fillies, and at the weights the prolific Queen of desire has a bit to find, but she’s a dual C&d winner, well drawn and as this is likely to be run at a strong pace , has a good make up for a late player.
¼ pt win Queen of Desire @ 9/4
4.35 In 9 runs last year, Bayshore freeway had 3 wins and 5 places ! including over C&d and remains on a workable mark. No issues with the ground and tough in the finish.
¼ pt win Bayshore Freeway @ 9/4
5.05 The Daley Express comes here on the back of an excellent 2nd at Windsor, and he has run this C&d very well in the past and off higher marks. He should be landing this well, but it’s been a while since is last win, so at just 5/4 happy to watch.
