Today’s Fortune for a fiver
20p ew Yank & 30p ew acca
Verdigris 3.50 @ 9/1
Bellevarde 4.50 @ 16/1
Ascot Dreamer 5.20 @ 11/1
King Athelstan 4.00 @ 9/2
Selected Brighton- good to firm ground on this undulating, sharp and tricky track. A track for course specialists
2.00 A weak opener and a short priced fav in lonicera, who hardly looks bombproof , dropping in trip around this tight track and an awkward wide draw. Tarzan ran well over C&D last time and this could be his day.
¼ pt win Tarzan @ 11/4
2.30 Maximlius has 2 wins over C&d and bounces off fast ground and despite being 4 pounds higher for his latest win, the opposition are just not cutting the mustard .
½ pt win Maximilus @ 5/4
4.00 another weak event and a decent opportunity for the reliable C&D winner King Athelstan , who has held his form well off his new mark. This trip is short enough , but the opposition is hardly formidable.
½ pt win King Athelstan @ 9/2
Selected Leicester- good to firm on this stiff and galloping track
2.10 The consistent Beryl The Petal goes well here and was a good 2nd at this track last time, off this mark but over a longer trip. The drop In trip is no issue and looks a most solid fav.
½ p win Beryl The Petal @ 2/1
4.40 Maidens here are often deep and plenty of big stable have runners wearing famous colours. Godolphin are two handed with the fav Platinum Star , a good 2nd on tapeta , and also Big City, who wears the first colours and on jockey bookings looks the number 1. Andrea Atzeni rides and this is his only ride of the day. The stable has won this race twice from just 4 runners and has to be a decent bet at the odds.
½ pt win Big City @ 8/1

Selected Redcar- good to firm on this flat and galloping track
2.50 PREMIUM RACE
3.50 The reliable Zodiakos looks sure to run his race, but a wide draw and quicker ground hardly ideal. Verdigris has had few chances and comes here on the back of a good 2nd over C&D, and stays on the same mark and looks a very nice ew bet.
½ pt ew Verdigris @ 9/1
4.20 The top stable if Wiliam Haggas has a terrific record here with a 50% record with older horses. He saddles the lightly raced Hamish, who did well on debut at Thirsk and the winner went close to landing a major prize on Saturday. That was over a mile and is bred for this much longer trip and this should be an absolute formality, but is 8/13.
4.50 Not many make appeal In this sprint and well worth trying recent winner Bellevarde, who landed a decent Windsor handicap making all . In an ideal world the ground would be slightly slower, but has to be a good bet at the odds.
½ pt ew Bellevarde @ 16/1
5.20 Acid test for the fav Inspired Thought who has 2 wins and a 2nd in just 3 starts, but all on the all weather, so much rather look elsewhere . Ascot Dreamer landed a big field handicap over C&d 3 starts back off a much lower mark, but has held her form well off her new mark. Another nice ew bet.
½ pt ew Ascot Dreamer @11/1
Selected Ayr- good ground on this flat and galloping track
5.45 I was very much with the reliable Pammi last time but tis usually patiently ridden type, went with a strong pace and thus underperformed. I’m wel happy to give her another chance over a C&D she runs wel. The problem though is that this is a race for amateur lady jockeys and our rider is highly inexperienced, so just a small play . Elite Icon has clear claims on form , as does Donachies Girl and both have good riders aboard.
¼ pt win Pammi @ 9/1
6.50 Jackhammer came into his last race in good form and absolutely sluiced in over C&D on similar ground, doing very well to win so easily from a bad draw,. He has no penalty and the draw has been a bit kinder, looks a banker.
¾ pt win Jackhammer @ 6/4
7.50 Not a deep race and the in form Kupa River remains the one to beat despite his challenging mark.
¼ pt win Kupa River @ 9/4
8.20 Looks very much a match and despite Mulligatawny preferring slightly slower ground, should get the better of Addis Ababa.
1/4 pt win Mulligatawny @ 9/4
Selected Southwell- all weather- fibresand
6.10 PREMIUM RACE
7.10 A very competitive sprint with many in form types effective over C&d. There’s plenty of early pace on which will help the strong finish of the in form Miningold, who goes really well over C&D and ran well on turf last time. The high draw is not ideal, but still a nice ew bet.
¼ pt ew MIningold @ 9/1
7.40 PREMIUM RACE
8.40 A weak finale and a good opportunity for the in form Cold Harbour , who beat a couple of useful yardsticks here a few races ago. He has to last an extra furlong and also overcome a 3 pound higher mark, but should get away with it in this modest finale.
½ pt win Cold Harbour @ 7/4
No Southwell placepot
