Newton Abbot- good to firm on this flat and sharp track
12.00 A weak opener which offers a great opportunity for Lapford Lad to land a quick C&d double. He was a shock winner but it could be a case of connections have found his optimum conditions. He really did win as he liked in the big field , beating a worthy short priced fav. The only nagging doubt is the change of jockey and sean Houlihan is on a long losing run, but is certainly capable and has ridden a couple of good races of late.
¾ pt win Lapford Lad @3/1
12.30 Yeaverling Bell is an accomplished bumper horse and only needs to jump adequately to land the odds.
1.00The only in form runner is Beau De Brizais, who is on a testing enough mark, but should get away with it in this contest.
2.00 Kingston Mimosa is the only in form runner , but wins are so hard to come by, but wont get a better chance.
¼ pt win Kingston Mimosa @ 3/1
2.30 The once very useful Southfield Vic comes here on a 4 timer, and after a demolition job, last seen over C&D, this looks a formality
Newton Abbot placepot
Selected Beverley- soft ground on this stiff and galloping track
1.40 Birkenhead has plenty of experience already and is odds on for this modest opener. He is conceding chunks of weight, which wont be easy , but does have a win over C&D and has won on softish ground. I personally think he would do well to win, so 4/6 not an attractive bet .
2.10 A typical big field Beverley sprint, but few come into this with high hopes. The fav is the capable One Boy, who has 2 C&d wins on his CV and soft ground a help, but should have done much better in his last two runs . Point of Wood has a rare drop into Class 6 and comes here on the back of an encouraging comeback spin when 3rd of 19 at Thirsk, just behind Pearl Noir, but that one has been very unlucky in the draw . Soft ground is no issue for the tip and has won off higher marks than today. He has showed effectiveness over C&D and from an Ok draw and under a jockey who knows him well. Could nab this late on.
½ pt ew Point of Woods @ 7/1
2.40 PREMIUM RACE
3.10 The usually reliable Christmas Night struggled a bit last time on quick ground and on the speed track at Musselburgh. He has a good record at this track and has had limited chances on soft ground, but has done well enough to be worth a dabble in this.
¼ pt win Christmas night @ 6/1
3.40 Kylie Rules is 3 from 3 this season , all over this C&D , and her latest win was on softish ground. She’s 3 pounds higher , but not a bad bet at the odds in a modest affair.
¼ pt win Kylie Rules @ 2/1
4.10 Another modest event and a decent opportunity for recent C&d winner Glacial Fox to get back on track . He made all that day but may not have that luxury today, but he didn’t let the side down last time out on soft ground at Nottingham when a decent 5th of 9, and another good run likely .
¼ pt win Glacial Fox @ 9/2
Selected Hamilton- probably good ground on this undulating, stiff and galloping track
1.50 Short priced fav here in the penalised Rose of Kildare and the drop in trip is another negative> Mr Fudge has done little wrong in either of his runs and a nice bet at the odds.
¼ pt win Mr Fudge @ 5/1
2.20 PREMIUM RACE
2.50 The consistent Charles Kingsley just can’t nail one , but this could be his day. He ran well over C&d last time In a far better race and a deserved victory can be his.
1/4pt win Charles Kingsley @ 2/1
3.25 PREMIUM RACE
3.55 & 4.25
These are both very uncompetitive heats and Rosemay and Majeste are two consistent types, but with poor win records, but hard to see them out of the frame.
¼ pt ew Double Rosemay @ 8/1 Majeste @ 4/1
Selected Cartmel- good to soft, but rain forecast so could worsen
This is a unique track, flat, sharp and a very long run in.
5.40 Boruma always runs well here but is on a long losing run while Barkov’s penalty may be just a bit too much to overcome. Aengus put in a much better effort last time which gives him soid claims and wont mind the ground softening but the nod goes to Putting Green, who was rated a lofty 92 on the flat , but remains a maiden over hurdles. Maybe this longer trip will help and significantly, Sam Twiston Davies, who is based in the South- west of England, makes the long journey for this only ride!
¼ pt win Putting Green @8/1
6.45 Olivers Gold comes here in very good form and also has a god record round here. This is not a deep contest and should be landing this but is on a lengthy losing run.
¼ pt win Olivers Gold @ 9/4
7.20 This track should be right up the street of the free going Aintree My dream and as his only two serious rivals in Deyranne De Carjac and William of Orange are having their first tries over fences, should be up to giving the weight away.
½ pt win Aintree My Dream @ 6/4
7.50 Carter Mckay got it right good style last time and will be very hard to beat, but not for me at odds on.
8.25 PREMIUM RACE
8.55 I’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather and the going, as Movie Set has very strong claims, as long as the going is not in the slightest soft. He comes here in very good form and wasn’t beaten far at all in a much better race , when not given any peace up front. This is a great track for strong front runners and has an able rider in Billy Garritty , who rides this track well, Pray for the rains to miss the track.
½ pt win Music set @ 7/1
Selected Warwick- probably good ground on this flat and sharp track
5.30 Longhouse Sale is 6 from 6 and looks to enhance perfection even further after an impressive win over hurdles last time, but 1/2 , too short for me for a single.
6.00 Present Ranger won very well last time and the double looks very much on.
½ pt double – Longhouse Sale @ ½ - Present Ranger @ 8/11- Double pays over 6/4
6.35 Definitely Vinnie doesn’t win many but does run well here and a reproduction of his latest 2nd over C&d would be enough to get back in the winner’s circle. The wheels have fallen off The Manuscript of late and first time fencing round this tricky circuit is hardly ideal.
¼ pt win Definitely Vinnie @ 7/2
7.10 You would expect Alltimegold to land the hat-trick in this weak affair , but he’s well odds on and is on a really testing mark.
7.40 Passing Storm comes here on a hat-trick and was particularly impressive winning over C&D last time and could be up to overcoming the 8 pound hit .
¼ pt win Passing Storm @ 9/2
8.15 A good opportunity for Global Domination in a weak event, but not for me at odds on.
8.45 Plenty of in form types in this finale for amateur riders, but I do like the chance of Three Colours Red, who recently returned from a break with an encouraging effort and the better ground will suit . the jockey knows the tip well and could have more to offer for his new stable.
½ pt win Three Colours Red @ 7/1
