Selected Thirsk- soft ground on this flat , galloping and quick track
Hard to be sure today with so few runners proven on soft, so just a few plays.
2.10 Stalking Moon hasn’t seen the racetrack a great deal in the last few seasons, but comes into this in good form and is proven over C&D and the ground. This is not a big ask, but his poor win frecord forces me into a modest play.
¼ pt win The Stalking Moon @ 4/1

No Thirsk placepot
No advice for Stratford today. It’s a poor card and very few are proven on soft ground. Last time there was soft ground the results were baffling.
Royal Ascot- going is good and the track is stiff and galloping
2.30 The Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes
At the ratings you could throw a blanket around the majority of these in this fiercely competitive opener , but the pair with a slight edge at the weights in the bang in form Mustashry and the prolific filly Laurens could have a significant impact in the outcome. Laurens is the likely pacesetter and it takes some doing leading all the way over this stiff C&D , but she’s as tough as nails and it would be folly to leave her out. Mustashry impressed on his comeback spin and this prominent racer is drawn in close proximity to the probable leader and I expect him to stay on the best. Last year’s shock winner Accidental Agent has a great record at this track and ran a belter on his comeback spin behind Mustashry when a strong finishing 3rd and better can be expected today , but his wide draw is nor ideal.
½ Mustashry to win @ 9/2.. 1/4pt ew Accidental Agent ew @ 14/1
3.05 The Group 2 Coventry Stakes
You’d be lucky finding the winner of this as only 3 of the 17 strong field have yet to win and all of the winners are unexposed and no knowing how good they are. There are two pretty short joint favs in Aidan O’Brien’s Arizona, who made all to land a modest maiden last time, but looked pretty useful , up against Threat , who only landed a 4 horse event on his debut win, but again impressed. Arizona is likely to be front rank , as will Monoski and probably Golden Horde , and these are all drawn low, but the flying Makyon should keep the high numbers in touch. I’m going for one of the real longshots on Lord of the Lodge , who is 1 from 1 and did the job really well. He is trained by Karl Burke who has a useful bunch of 2yos and as he is the stable choice for this, is obviously no slouch.
Lord of The lodge 1/4 pt ew @ 80/1
3.40 The Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes
Some of the top sprinters around go to war in this and last year’s winner Blue Point has every chance of landing the double, but could be isolated from his low draw. At the ratings there is little between him and the back to form Battash and the prolific mare Mabs Cross can never be discounted. Looking at the pace angle, the flying Soldiers Call could well have things his own way and this C&d can quicken well off the front. He has a bit to find with the principals at the weights, but if, as expected, he can dominate from flagfall, could provide a minor shock.
Soldier’s Call ½ pt ew @ 14/1
4.20 The Group 1 St James’ Palace Stakes
Another tough race to solve as the Champion 2yo Too Darn Hot, has yet to strike this year, but went close at The Curragh in the Irish 2000 Guineas when just beaten by surprise winner Phoenix of Spain, but it didn’t look a fluke to me. This pair must surely feature today and it’s hard to leave out the progressive and prolific pair of Fox Champion and King of Comedy. Aiden O’Brien has supplemented Circus Maximus for this and a return to this trip will suit after his good 6th in The Derby. He has two stablemates who are here just to make up the numbers, but are likely to set a strong pace which will bring the tip’s stamina into play.
Circus Maximus ¼ pt ew @ 16/1
5.00 The Ascot Stakes Class 2 handicap
A marathon handicap and very few have ever ventured this far before, but the veteran Fun Mac has run well in this before and again may stay on for a place. In the past, jumps stables have done very well in this race, and plenty of top National Hunt stables have representatives, but I’m trying the highly consistent Ulster, who impressed me last time when disputing a strong pace in a hot event at Musselburgh, but just kept on plugging away, giving the impression that he’s an out and out stayer.
Ulster ½ pt ew @ 20/1
5.35 The Wolverton Class 1 Stakes
This is perhaps the most winnable race on the card and I’m trying the John Gosden Star of Bengal, who’s only having his 5th ever race today and does have a bit to find on official figures, but is progressive and the stable has targeted this race successfully in the past. The wide draw is not ideal and the first time cheekpieces ask a few questions, but still looks a player.
Star of Bengal ¼ pt ew @ 11/1

Selected Brighton- good to firm on this undulating, sharp and tricky track where proven course form is an asset
5.50 PREMIUM RACE
6.50 The veteran Pour La Victoire has a terrific record here with 9 wins and 7 places from 23 starts, so statistically this strong finisher is likely to place, at least and as he comes here on the back of a good 3rd over C&d and with the strong pace really likely to help his strong finish, a most lively longshot.
½ pt ew Pour La Victoire @ 14/1
7.20 PREMIUM RACE
7.50 The front running Dear Miriam comes here on the back of two solid runs and no reason why she wont run her race again tonight as she has only been found out of late on softish ground and over a longer trip. She is new to this tricky track but the stable has plenty of winners here. Oliver Hardy won well here last time on similar ground but has a penalty and a longer trip to overcome.
½ pt ew Dear Miriam @ 8/1
8.20 Brothers in arms belied odds of 66/1 to be a close 2nd over C&D last time on similar ground and a wide draw. It’s the best form he’s showed for some time, but may have just found his niche .
¼ pt win Brothers in Arms @ 7/1

Selected good to soft on this stiff and galloping track
6.30 despite the small field this is highly competitive and all of Gold Fleece, lincoln’s tale and Fayetta finished alongside each other in the Thirsk mud recently, but the return to this track is in course winner’s Lincoln Tale’s favour, and l=this could drop her way.
¼ pt win Lincolns Tale @ 11/2
7.30 A chance can be given to many but the in form Kilbaha Lady may well be inconvenienced by both the drop in trip and rise in the weights. The well drawn Ghayyar likes it here and the form of his recent C&D over C&d has received a few boosts . Nice longshot
½ pt ew Ghayyar @ 12/1
8.30 This is very weak and the drying ground is very much in the favour of C&d winner Glacial fox.
¼ pt win Glacial Fox @ 7/2
9.00 After looking impossible to win with, Majeste has turned over a new leaf with 2 wins and a good 2nd in his last three races and can exploit this most winnable finale with plenty in his favour.
