Today’s Fortune for a fiver
6 50p doubles, 4 25p trebles & 50p ew acca
Epeius 2.55 @ 11/1
Magical 3.40 @ 13/8
I Am Dandy 4.45 @ 6/1
Life knowledge5.55 @ 7/1
Selected Hamilton- good to firm on this undulating , galloping and stiff track
2.55 Epeius certainly knows how to nail a race and has won 3 of his last 7 races, and is only a pound higher for his last win, which came on the Newcastle tapeta, but has won here on form ground and ran very well to be 2nd to subsequent big field winner Galloway Hills at Redcar on fast turf , doing very well from the wide draw. He can be forgiven a below par run here last time when drawn badly in the mud and looks a very nice bet at very juicy odds.
½ pt win Epeuis @ 11/1
4.45 This has a winnable look to it and the consistent and in form I Am Dandy can notch a deserved win. He’s nicely drawn and proved stamina for this with a close 3rd over C&d last time out, which came on soft ground, so the ground is a slight issue, but has run close to his best on quick turf.
1/2 pt win I Am Dandy @ 6/1
5.55 I’m keen to take on both recent winners in Cold harbour and Dew Pond off higher marks and quick turf with Life Knowledge, who I was with strongly last time , but did disappoint. He does throw the odd bad one in , but is generally reliable and has run some good races here on fast turf. This wont take much winning and in this apprentices race, the young jockey has ridden him well before.
½ pt win Life knowledge @7/1
Selected Uttoxeter- good to soft on this slightly undulating, generally sharp track with a galloping straight
2.10 The soft ground is the issue for most of these , but that’s no issue for the short priced fav in Theatre Bell, who has her first start for Dan Skelton, who has a great record with new intakes, but recent form has been poor. The clear form horse is the consiatent Lee side lady, 2nd in her last 3 runs all around this trip and mark. These runs have come on good ground, but handles the mud and has to be a good ew bet, especially with STD riding.
½ pt ew Lake Side Lady @ 9/1
5.45 the ground again is the problem with most of these, including the market leaders Ask Catkin and pure Affection. Hot Ryan does have form on soft ground and looks the best of a modest field.
¼ pt win Hot Ryan @ 9/2
Royal Ascot- going good to soft , the track is stiff and galloping
2.30 The Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes
There have been certainly easier races to solve with 28 unexposed fillies, many unbeaten go to war, but looking at the racing styles, the pace is likely to come from one of American trainer’s Wesley T ward two runners in Anna’s Fast, who is certainly that as she scooted clear on her debut on dirt, but soft ground today will not help. She is drawn high as is final Song who also made all on debut that coming over this C&D on soft ground, so a couple of boxes ticked there, and as the well beaten 3rd horse was a very clear winner next time, could be a stronger race than first thought.
1/4ptWin Final Song @ 5/1
3.05 The Group 2 Queens Vase
Hard to be sure here as very few have ever raced at this trip , especially on a testing track as this and on softening ground , so stamina will certainly win the day. Aiden O’Brien has a terrific record in this and runs four, but his two best chances lie with Western Australia, who won at just shy of this trip last time, but on fast ground , and with Norway, whose last run came in the Derby. Godolphin saddle a couple of lightly raced, prolific and progressive types in Jalmoud and Moonlight Spirit , and I make this pair the two to concentrate on, They clashed on debut on the Newcastle tapeta when Moonight Spirit was just too good and since then he’s landed two more wins and comes here on the back of a 3rd in a Group 3 at Longchamp , on softish ground and running on well at the end. Jalmoud also won at Longchamp last time on soft ground but only in Listed company, but looks ready for this longer trip. The nod goes to Moonlight Spirit at the odds , but a saver and rev fc on his teammate is advised.
1/2pt Ew Moonlight Spirit @ 10/1 win1/4pt jalmoud,@ 7/1 rev fc
3.40 The Group 1 Prince of Wales’ Stakes
On official ratings, this is mighty close between the classy quartet of Crystal Ocean, Waldgeist, Sea of Class and Magical, but at this trip and ground, the latter looks comfortably the best .
1pt Win Magical @ 13/8
4.20 The group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes
Nyaleti has disappointed a few times of late but the return to this track on soft ground makes her a most lively longshot.
¼ pt ew Nyaleti @ 40/1
5.00 The Class 2 handicap, The Royal Hunt Cup
5.35 The Class 1 Windsor Castle Stakes
There is a stack of early pace all across the track so the draw should be immaterial and so hard to be sure with so many unexposed and progressive juveniles. I’m with Mark Johnston’s Iffraaz who was impressive on debut on the Carlisle mud, so wont fail for lack of stamina and with Frankie aboard, a nice ew play
Ew Iffrazz @14/1
Selected Chelmsford City- all weather- polytrack
5.40 A very weak opener and the fav is the back to form Captain Dion to double up on a recent win on soft ground at Ponty, so this is a very different test, up in trip and under a hefty penalty. He’s well drawn , but just too many factors to overcome. There was plenty of cash for Simba Samba last time out on turf and ran really well to be 3rd. That was his first run after a wind op and obviously has helped. He’s effective on the surface and trip , but the draw is not great and the jockey struggling for winners, so just a small play.
¼ pt win Simba Samba @ 3/1
6.40 The recent C&d winners That is The Spirit and Sword Exceed have a lot more to do up in the ratings, grade and from wide draws while Godolphin’s Laieth is well drawn, but is now operating off a testing mark.Charles Molson is certainly had to win with, but has been given every chance tonight. He comes here on the back of a decent effort on turf at Goodwood, but of late his best efforts have come on polytrack, and in 3 tries here he has a win and 2 places, and he ended last season with an excellent 2nd over C&d, from a wide draw and off a 2 pound higher mark. Well drawn tonight, looks a very nice ew bet.
½ pt ew Charles Molson @ 8/1
7.10 This looks a match between the useful pair of Desert Fire and exec Chief, and the nod goes to the latter despite a nudge up the weights for a good effort over C&D last time.
¼ pt win Exec Chief @ 10/3
7.40 lord Roddiford was a ready winner over C&d , winning for Premium Tip Members, but would do well to double up under a penalty and not such a good draw. The sprightly veteran Tropics ran a cracker in that race and only gave best late on and stays on the same mark of 103, quite a workable mark and a credit to this 11yo, but in his heyday he did win The July Cup. He had a bad draw that day, so the run can be upgraded and has been rewarded with a better berth, but the presence of the flying Just That Lord inside is a nuisance , but can overcome the hindrance. If they went too quick, both Udodontyou and Royal Birth could enter the argument with strong finishes.
½ win Tropics @ 7/2
8.10 PREMIUM RACE
8.40 Bayshore freeway has developed into a tough and talented stayer , but on turf , and has bit to do back on this surface off a really testing mark. Highgarden ended last season with a Group 3 win so has to be well respected on her comeback spin but is new to polytrack and untried at the trip. Lady Bergamot ran well last time on turf over a trip short of her best and is 1 from 1 over C&D . She is 4 pounds higher and not sure to confirm form over White Chocolate, but as that one has been struggling of late, worth a dabble.
¼ pt win Lady Bergamot @ 5/1
9.10 Quick Monet was a shock winner over C&d last time and could well overcome the 3 pound rise, but wasn’t far ahead of either Magicinthemaking or Tarseekh. I fancy the latter will get revenge tonight as he’s at his best when dominating, which is likely tonight and remains on a good mark.
½ pt ew Tarseekh @ 6/1
Chelmsford City placepot
Sorry folks, nothing worth playing at Ripon tonight. Soft ground no help to most of the runners and happy to swerve the card.
