Today’s Fortune for a fiver
3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Rapid Russo 12.30 @ 9/2
Shine Baby Shine 4.45 7/2
Oblate 7.45 @ 5/1
Selected Catterick – Very soft ground on this undulating and sharp track
12.30 On official ratings Mighty Spirit is well clear of these, but this disappointing type remains a maiden after 8 tries and has blown easier opportunities than this and it’s also her first try on deep ground and this tricky track. Well happy to take her on at short odds and prefer the chance of Rapid Russo, who was impressive winning over C&d on deep ground, coming from way off the pace to win with style. Has to shoulder a penalty , but still makes most appeal.
1/2pt win Rapid Russo @ 9/2
1.30 The lightly raced Bo Samraan comes here on the back of a really good win at Ponty in the mud in his first handicap. The 6 pound penalty looks manageable as does the longer trip on this easy track. Looks hard to beat.
½ pt win Bo Samraan @ 11/8
2.05 Zip is not easy to win with but is rarely far away as he was last time, a very decent 3rd over C&d on deep ground. There’s a lot of early pace on this which should set it up for the strong finishers, but just a small play.
¼ pt ew Zip @ 4/1
2.35 PREMIUM RACE
3.10 PREMIUM RACE
4.15 Night Law is 2 from 2 over C&d, the latest coming on deep ground but off a 4 pound lower mark. This looks competitive , but ability at this tricky track counts for plenty.
¼ pt ew Night Law @ 9/1
Selected Chepstow- soft ground on this undulating, galloping and quite stiff track
1.15 Eva’s Oskar comes here on a hat-trick and his latest win demonstrated huge determination when outpaced at the sharp Warwick track, but ran them down most willingly late on . A return to a stiffer track and softer ground is very much in his favour, but his capable stable is not in the best of form and don’t do that well here, but in what looks a winnable heat , worth a dabble.
¼ pt win Eva’s Oskar @6/1
1.45 Carnspindle drew a blank last season but resumes in a class where in 3 runs has 2 wins and a place, but she does go up in trip today and the jockey booking could have been more positive, so I’m leaving her for another day. Christmas in April win first time out last year and went on to run some solid races. He’s with a top stable, on a workable mark and this longer trip could help.
¼ pt win Christmas in April @ 4/1
2.20 Eason won first time out last year landing a vey decent bumper here and his top stable then aimed him at a couple of Class 1 bumpers , where he ran respectably , but wasn’t up that standard, but the fact the stable thought him good enough suggests he could be pretty good. This is more quantity than quality and looks a nice bet at the odds.
½ pt win Eason @ 6/1
No Chepstow placepot
Selected Southwell – all weather- fibresand
4.45 Shine Baby Shine has been a bit in and out of late, but rarely runs flat here and in 3 runs here has 2 wins and a place on her Cv, her only unplaced effort coming last time, behind a runaway winner, but not far away from the placed horses, who came into the race in good form. She’s been dropped a welcome 2 pounds and also into Class 6 where her record stands at 2 wins and 4 places from 7 starts ! . It’s a race for apprentices and the rider rode her well over C&d last time. Not a deep race.
½ pt win Shine Baby Shine @7/2
5.15 It’s always preferable to have one on your side here with experience on this surface which makes Alex Gracie of interest. Her only run came over C&D and was a very reasonable effort with the winner landing a nursery next time. Others have stronger form but tis surface is a law to itself.
¼ pt ew Alex Gracie @ 7/1
5.45 Cold Harbour has a terrific record here with 3 wins from 4 tries, but current form is hit and miss and off his present testing mark, looking elsewhere. The fav is the in form Grazeon Roy but stamina is taken on trust and only run here was most poor. George Mallory has been going well on turf in the mud and soft ground horses often do well here , so is chanced at very nice odds.
¼ pt win George Mallory @ 7/1
6.15 This is there for the taking and hard to look past C&d specialist Hammer Gun who comes here in terrific form from turf but just a couple of concerns.. He’s had a longer break than usual and an out of form jockey rides, but still hard finding an alternative.
½ pt winHammer Gun @ 9/4
6.45 PREMIUM RACE
7.45 The short priced fav is Healing Power who made almost all on debut to land a pretty deep maiden at Chelmsford City, but goes up in trip, carries a penalty and is also new to this surface, and there are alternatives in this. Both Snow Ocean and Oblate come here on the back of decent runs over C&D in handicaps and even though Snow Ocean is rated 12 pounds higher than Oblate, this one has looked a tricky ride while the tip made plenty of friends when finishing strongly to fail by just a neck and looks a solid ew bet .
½ pt ew Oblate @ 5/1
8.15 Suitcase N Taxi won well over C&d first try here with track regulars Break The Silence and Bee Machine a few lengths behind , but the 5 pound hit is hefty. Geography Teacher is another with a good record here and looks improved on his two starts for his new stable.
¼ pt ew Geography Teacher @ 10/1
