Today’s Fortune for a fiver
3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Pinatubo 3.00 @ 7/4
Sceptical 3.35 @ 3/1
Imrahor 3.20 @ 4/1
Selected Newmarket – good ground on this undulating, stiff and galloping track
12.30 The fav is Chaimanic who had the run of the race at Haydock last time , but does drop In trip and on his only other start finished lame, so may not be the hardiest making his odds of just 6/4 most unattractive. Lexington Dash has solid form but all on the all weather but is bred for turf . On balance a race I’d like to leave alone .
1.05 Only 5 go and you can give a chance to all but I have the short priced fav in Vasatti down the pecking order going handicapping on a tough enough mark . Ivathengine has done little wrong and after a good debut has won both subsequent starts , both on the all weather, but his debut run was a good one and came on turf. On a fair mark and remains unexposed .
½ pt win Ivathengine @ 7/2
1.40 There wasn’t very much between Star Cactus and Sky Angel in a decent maiden here and over this longer trip hard to be certain who will come out on top, but the tip is certainly overpriced to prevail .
¼ pt win StarCactus @ 7/2
2.45 This looks a match between the useful Riviera Knight , who has his first start for the top stable of Roger Varian and the capable Deep Intrigue, down to a good mark and with fitness assured and with good course form in the book , gets the nod.
¼ pt win Deep Intrigue @ 3/1
3.20 Sunray Major was impressive on debut but the quality of the field wasn’t great and has to shoulder a penalty as does Montather, well backed to win on debut on the all weather. Imrahor ran a blinder in his only race last season giving the useful Cherokee Trial a fright and was well clear of the rest . Looks a very safe ew play .
¾ p tew Imrahor @ 4/1
4.25 Full marks to High Kingdom who won really well on his comeback spin but now on a testing mark and up in trip . Good Tidings ran really well on his comeback spin but has questions to answer back on turf as does the prolific and upgraded Noble behest . Volcanic Sky is also on a tricky mark so the nod goes to the useful hurdler Scaramanga , rated 142 in that sphere which is 100 on the flat and can race today off just 85, but he has only just ran well off that mark in the past . The Nicholls stable has done well with hurdlers trying the flat and worth s flutter in an interesting finale .
¼ pt win Scaramanga @ 9/2
Royal Ascot- good ground on this stiff and galloping track
12.40 PREMIUM RACE
1.15 A massive field for this Group 2 for juvenile fillies and 9 of the 20 were last time winners and 6 of those are 1 from 1 . The short priced fav is the Aidan O’Brien filly More Beautiful who looked good on debut but the top stable has struggled in this race historically and their last 14 runners have missed the mark .The Mark Johnston juveniles have won stacks of races this season and runs two unbeaten fillies in Pelakai and shifts of Time , who both look lively longshots but the booking of Will Buick is significant and the latter will carry my money .
¼ pt ew Sands Of time @ 18/1
1.50 A group 2 sprint for juvenile colts and it’s a similar story with 9 of the field 1 from 1 , so impossible to be sure which one is going to come out on top. The fav is Aidan O’brien’s Admiral Nelson , who looked good on debut, but so did many others in the field and this race has been plundered by the top stable 9 times !!. Creative Force is the Godolphin pick and made plenty of friends with an impressive all the way win at Newmarket and the 3rd horse did well to hit the frame here yesterday . As with many in this field could be anything and again Will Buick rides .
¼ pt ew Creative Force @ 11/1
2.25 PREMIUM RACE
3.00 Pinatubo went into the 2000 Guineas an odds fav after winning all previous 6 starts and possessing a lofty rating of 128 but I was a bit worried about the quick ground and could only manage a close 3rd, a length behind Witchita. He is bred to get this trip and further and on mote suitable ground , normal service can be resumed .
¾ pt win Pinatubo @ 7/4
3.35 The fav for this group 1 sprint is the incredible Sceptical , who cost owners just £2,900and after a nice debut has won his other 4 races in plenty of style , never off the bridle to succeed .His first 3 wins all came on the Dundalk polytrack so last time was is acid test facing turf for the first time and it proved no obstacle as he sluiced in . The quality of that form gives him every right to be the one to beat today. Many of his rivals are not coming into this in the best of form and I’m with him to keep the sequence going.
½ pt winSkeptical @ 3/1
4.10 PREMIUM RACE
4.40 The Final race of what has been another wonderful Royal ascot, despite a complete absence of racegoers. The traditional finale is the longest race of the flat calendar in the Queen Alexandra Stakes and we have a short priced fav in the useful Who dares Wins who on the ratings is just superior to The Grand Visir who won here last year in a long distance handicap just short of this trip , which makes him a clear threat to Who Dares Wins who has become a bit in and out. Adrastos os a very useful chaser , rated 140 and always runs his race. Happy to play him at such long odds.
¼ pt ew Adrastos @ 18/1
No advice form Naas today
Nothing I’d like to risk hard-earned upon at Ripon and happy to give the meeting the swerve
Selected Kempton- all weather -polytack
5.20 seneca Chief is making up very well for lost time winning 2 from 3 since a very long layoff. He didn’t bounce last time so looks to have fully recovered but despite this being a modest heat has a bit to do under a hefty penalty and a bad draw, but still not impossible. Bernie’s boy is capable but limited and has the best of the draw. Small play to possibly make all from the best of the draw.
¼ pt win Bernie’s Boy @ 9/2
5.55 A most modest heat and hard seeing Just An Idea following up a surprise win at Chelmsford City under a penalty and at a track he’s never even hit the frame at. Just 2 years ago Lacan was winning off marks in the 80’s., but he’s gone backwards since with little encouragement , until last time out when sluicing at Chelmsford City by a long looking 7 lengths and the 4 pound hit shouldn’t stop the double . He hasn’t been with his present stable that long and they have a knack of coaxing runners back to form. It’s hard to see him getting beaten but consistency not his strong point so can pass at evens .
6.55 Hats off to the very likeable mare Magicinthemaking who in 9 runs last year came out with 4 wins , 3 seconds and a 3rd and her only unplaced effort came on her comeback spin when she lost her jockey at the start when badly hampered. She has a great record here with 2 wins and 2 places from 4 completed races and she resumes duties off what looks a workable mark. She’s been unlucky in the draw and the jockey booking could have been more positive but she’s a cracking racehorse worth a dabble at the odds.
¼ pt win Magicinthemaking @ 7/1
7.25 A chance can be given to many in this but both recent track winners in Olympic Conqueror and Secretario are penalised in this deeper race, but both still hard to rule out. Mordred took advantage of a declining mark for a smart win at Lingfield and the penalty could have been worse and he has run well off higher marks than this. He’s unexposed on this surface and nice odds to double up .
½ pt win Mordred @ 11/2
7.55 Mutasaamy was a massively costly failure on his comeback spin off his new testing mark , but the stiff Newcastle track my have been the reason for failure, but still prefer to just watch him for now. Kings Highway rarely sees the racetrack, but does well when he’s there and won his only race last year which came over C&d, but he was all out and a 4 pound hit will test . Swiss Cheer is pretty lightly raced and ended last season with 2 wins , one over C&D , and both times coming from way back , so hard for the handicapper to assess, but the 6 pound hit is hefty .He could possibly be ahead of the game .
¼ pt win Swiss Cheer @9/2
8.25 The likeable Mabo again ran his race last time but his consistency is attracting the attention of the assessor and has been nudged up a harsh 2 pounds. In a weak finale the well drawn front running Cristal Pallas Cat could take a bit of catching .
¼ p tew Cristal Pallas Cat @ 8/1
