Today’s Fortune for a fiver
50p ew Trixie & 50p ew treble
Well funded 12.45 @ 12/1
Sir Maximilian 1.45 @ 14/1
Bellick 3.30 @ 9/1
Selected Haydock – good to firm on this flat and galloping track
12.45 The useful hurdler Solo Saxaphone was an easy winner last time out at good odds on his first start for his new stable , but consistency not his strongpoint and besides a hefty penalty he has half a mile further to travel today . Snookered was looking hard to win with but simply took off over hurdles last season taking his winning mark from an average 109 up to a lofty 140 , but would rather just watch him today returning from a break on quick ground. Singing Sheriff and Ned Pepper both have stamina doubts while the reliable Methag would prefer more juice in the ground Well Funded won three times last year and is still relatively unexposed as a stayer . His last win came in very different circumstances around the tight Chester circuit on bottomless ground , but it does underline his stamina. His comeback spin was a tidy effort when only weakening late on at Ponty over a trip well short enough . All of his wins have come on easy ground but has run his race on quicker turf. Well drawn and a very nice ew play . The lightly raced Cool Possibility comes here on a hat-trick after two excellent wins on the Southwell fibresand but turf form is not shabby and cannot be ruled out .
½ p tew Well Funded @ 12/1
1.15 Vedute brings most solid form into the race after a good 4th at Newmarket and the 3rd horse was victorious at Royal Ascot , but this longer trip is a worry . There has been a lot of money for the well bred and expensive Darvel who is now just even money .
1.45 A really good quality Class 2 handicap sprint and the worthy fav is recent C&d winner Aljady who was having his first try for his new stable of Robert Cowell, renowned for training quality sprinters and the 5 pound hit may well not stop him . The prolific Celcius , 5 wins and a 2nd in his last 7 races , resumed duties recently with a good win here but is now on a testing mark and more importantly goes up in trip where he has struggled , but that was in the early days of his career . the probable leader is the well treated Staxton , but I’d rather see more from him than of late and Top Breeze will be also front rank. A good pace looks on which will help the talented veteran in Sir Maximillian , who is still rated a lofty 93 despite being an 11yo , and in his prime was rated around 115 !! . He ended last season with a smart win at Chester off just 2 pounds lower and Will Buick takes the ride again and he has a terrific record here . He’s not out of this and makes appeal , especially at long odds .
½ pt ew Sir Maximilian @ 14/1
2.15 This has a most winnable look to it and despite a 5 pound penalty taking him to a testing mark, Fortune and Glory doesn’t have much to beat .
¼ pt win Fortune And glory @3/1
2.45 Another race where it’s hard to fancy many and the lightly raced Returnofthemac could well double up off a fair mark .
¼ pt win Returnofthemac @ 2/1
3.15 A good quality Class 1 for fillies but the highest rated filies in Boomer , Stylistique and Under The Stars are not running anywhere close to their mark . I like the look of the Godolphin filly in Althiga, who is 2 from 2 , winning both times with ease .. but wide draw a worry .
½ pt win Althiga @ 7/2
3,45 Hard to pick between the joint favs in Garden Oasis and Sootability .
4.15 Not a deep race and Competition Is the clear form horse snd chanced switching to quick turf .
¼ pt win Competition @ 3/1
4.50 Tigerskin is warm order to double up but this does look a deeper race .
5.20 Understandable that dreamweaver is a warm fav , but not for me at short odds.
Selected fairyhouse – good to firm on this undulating and galloping track
1.00Desoite being well related and with a good stable, Astadish was a 100/1 shot on debut in quite a deep Leopardstown maiden and finished like the clappers to be an excellent 3rd . Should reward odds on players.
1.30 Hard to pick between Alghazeel, Hosier and Yulong Magicreff who all showed promise on their recent debut runs .
2.00 After a good win on the Dundalk polytrack , Mythologic ran well returning from a break to be a close 4th in a Leopardstown handicap and holds longshot appeal .
¼ p tew Mythologic @ 14/1
2.30 quite an open handicap but the consistent Eacharn did well on his comeback spin when trying to make all and could last a bit longer today .
¼ p tew Eacharn @ 15/2
3.30 Bellick is a reliable soul who runs his race whatever is chucked at him . Comes here in good form and another good run likely .
½ pt ew Bellick @ 9/1
Selected Bath – firm ground on this sharp but stiff track
4.35 An unappealing opener as both Shoot To Tell and Good earth have both had plenty of chances . The drop in trip should suit Villain’s Voice but at short odds happy to swerve .
5.10 Indian Sounds has dropped to a really good mark and responded very well last time with a close 2nd at this trip at Thirsk , but his win record is poor for an even money shot and last win was 2 years ago . He has the worst of the draw and despite making the 470 mile round trip from Yorkshire, the stable is 0 from 4 here . Thegreyvtrain is a regular here and is massively consistent and only narrowly failed over C&D last year off this mark . he bounces off quick ground and is chanced returning from a break .
1/2 pt win THegreyvtrain @ 13/2
5.40 An easy one to watch as all of the form horses in this 2yo sprint are switching from the all weather .
The in form Spoof has plenty to prove at this stiff C&D while track specialist Delegate This lord didn’t show much on his comeback spin and usually needs a few runs before getting into the groove . Handytalk is effective over C&D and has dropped to a good mark . He’ll have benefitted from his comeback spin and a nice ew play .
½ pt ew Handytalk @ 8/1
6.40 This should be easy peasy for the in form Establish and if you are the type brave enough to plunge on a 4/6 shot, this is your bet of the day , but I can afford to watch .
7.10 Motamayiz was all the rage on his handicap debut on the all weather , but found it happening all too quickly around the tight Lingfield circuit , but finished very well to be a close 3rd . This is not a big ask but not for me at evens .
7.40 PREMIUM RACE
8.10 An easy finale to avoid as all of these plodders have poor win records .
Selected Leicester – good to firm on this stiff and galloping track
4.55 this is most winnable and despite a 4 pound hit for a good comeback win at Beverley , Burtonwood is a confident selection for the double. He’s not known for running well fresh , so the comeback victory underlines his current rude state of health . He was poorly drawn in that race but responded well when asked for is effort by today’s 5 pound claimer and won by a few lengths. The 2nd horse has run 2nd since and there was a long way back to the 3rd in that Beverley race. Veteran Monarch Mad is sure to try and make all , but she is hard to win with nowadays and first time visor a negative for the stable. The tip is well drawn to stalk the pace and sees the trip out really well and has run well here in all 3 previous tries. Qaaraat has become very hard to win with and the switch to turf unlikely to help and the same can be said about the capable but currently lethargic Awsaaf .
¾ pt win Burtonwood @ 9/4
5.25 The market leaders are Aristocratic Lady and Thebian who both drop in trip and are unlikely to benefit from the drop in distance. This race has the look of a boilover .
5.55 Sandridge Lad took off good style early this year on the Southwell fibresand with a hat-trick of wins taking his winning mark from an average 70 to very decent 80 . He has resumed duties with two creditable effort on turf off his much reduced grass mark of 66 . He’ll try to make all and will relish this stiff C&d . Slight worry on fast turf.
1/4 pt win Sandridge Lad @ 4/1
6.25 PREMIUM RACE
6.55 Most of these are happier on the all weather, including the last time winners in Takeonefortheteam and Peruvian Summer and would prefer to look elsewhere on the quick turf. Elusive Heights was pretty useful a few seasons ago, but hasn’t won for 4 years ! He has responded well to the drop in the ratings and comes here on the back of a good 2nd at Ponty . The first time hood is a worry as is the very quick ground , but this is not deep and could be his day .
¼ pt win elusive Heights @ 4/1
7.25 Another uncompetitive heat and an opportunity for the consistent Klipperty Klopp , who ran well on his comeback race and has decent form over C&D off higher marks .
½ pt win Klipperty Klopp @ 9/2
7.55 An odds on shot in Wise Glory , who has good form but never on ground this quick and the only danger is the Sir Michael Stoute newcomer in Golden Pine , costly and well related but jockey booking could have been more positive .
8.25 Nabaawy was all the rage on his debut but was chinned by a 200/1 shot !! and they finished in a heap so form looks very dodgy . Another maiden happy to swerve .
8.55 The Sir mark Prescott trained Theheartnevelies is the short priced fav for this modest finale as he is expected to leave his modest juvenile form way behind now over a more suitable trip . Not for me at evens .
