Just a reminder that I have a hospital appointment tomorrow for what I hope is a straight forward procedure . It has been moved forward to the morning so judging on it keeping to time and how I’m feeling after the event . it may be possible to provide a service tomorrow, but no promises .
Today’s Fortune for a fiver
3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Astimegoesby 4.40 @ 15/2
Beau Sancy 12.15 @ 5/2
My Kinda Day 12.35 @ 4/1
Selected Ripon – good ground on this undulating , sharp and tricky track
12.00 The short priced fav is Brazen Belle after her winning debut but would do well to follow up under a penalty and switching to a speed track. Well drawn but some dark horses in the field .
12.35 The longer trip, softer ground and wide draw paid for Zim baby’s chance last time when I made her a very vulnerable even money fav but she is better judged on her runaway win at Thirsk and remains in the category of could be anything . She’s well drawn and has clear claims. She made all that day and will not have it her own way up front with a handful of prominent racers , but both Iva Refelction and Silent Agenda have been unlucky In the draw. My kinda Day was unlucky at Newcastle when just touched off by Sunset Breeze , but that one has gone onto land a hat-trick and the tip did little wrong last time when a close 2nd off his new mark . He’s well drawn and this could be his day .
½ pt win My Kinda Day @ 4/1
2.10 PREMIUM RACE
2.40 River Dawn has won 3 of his last 4 , all on the all weather, but has also showed he can run his race on turf but is now on a testing mark so looking elsewhere despite the best of the draw. Frankelo bounced back to form last time but despite a good draw , you have to worry about the rise in the weights, grade and effectiveness on a speed track . saisons D’or is a most reliable type who I back frequently but would do well to feature from the worst of the draw under an inexperienced rider . Alfred Richardson has been given some help from the handicapper and drops in grade . He didn’t do badly last time and is a C&D winner and well drawn.
½ pt win Alfred Richardson @ 8/1
3.40 This looks very winnable and I give a decent chance to Out Of breath , who ran respectably last time and drops in the ratings . Nicely drawn and not many here have a chance .
½ pt win Out of Breath @ 11/2
Selected Stratford – good ground on this flat and sharp track
12,15 A very uncompetitive novice hurdle and there is an odds on fav in Daguenau whom I very happy to take on as it took some time for him to come to hand last season, is more potent in the mud and unproven at the trip and on a tight track. Beau sancy is a consistent chaser who took his form to a new level when joining the massively in form stable of Olly Murphy . He’s had a long break since finding heavy ground far too much for him but does have a good record running fresh and on tight tracks. The only other danger is the ex – Irish Tango Echo Charlie , who has joined the good stable of Dr Richard Newland, renowned for doing well with new intakes but his bare form needs drastic improvement and unproven on good ground .
¾ pt win Beau Sancy @ 5/2
12.45 A good quality novice chase and the nod goes to decent hurdler Beat The Judge , who when last seen was in good shape.
¼ pt win Beat The Judge @ 4/1
The remainder of the races are either uncompetitive novice events or handicaps were you can make a case for many In the field and full of ifs and buts .
No advice from Ireland today
Selected Newbury – good ground on this flat and galloping track
4.40 Carn Gorm did well winning on debut at Windsor when strong in the market , despite a bad draw. He carries the dreaded penalty and would do very well to double up tonight . Clear preference is for Astimegoesby , a close 3rd on debut at Newmarket at this trip , behind a pair of Godolphin runners, one of which was 2ndin the Woodcote on Derby Day . The tip went had from the front and was only nailed late on for a narrow defeat . He then took his chance at Royal Ascot, but lost his chance with interference at the start and was then chasing shadows . I like his high draw and his chance at very nice odds.
½ pt ew Astimegoesby @ 15/2
5.40 The down in trip Sir plato will try to lead this all the way but doubtful he has the speed to succeed and will be under pressure immediately by the flying Jungle Speed, who’s hard to fancy on current showings . Whelan’s Way went close a number of times last year off higher marks and ran well at Windsor last time ,when well backed but things didn’t pan out right for him on a night when the front runners held the call. He’s well drawn to stalk the pace and the capable stable has a good record fitting blinkers. Holds a strong chance.
¾ pt win Whelan’s Way @ 9/4
6.10 PREMIUM RACE
6.40 This is so winnable and offers another terrific chance to the very hard to win with Medieval , whose last win was 3 years ago off a lofty mark of 86 and has since hit the frame frequently off higher marks than this, but despite his clear chance, just a small play due to his lazy style of running .
¼ pt win Medieval @ 7/2
7.10 Nova Roma was very impressive winning on just his 2nd start and despite the penalty , has found a soft race to notch the double .
¾ pt win Nova Roma @ 4/5
7.40 Darain cost £3 and a half million and is brother to the top class trio of Too Darn Hot , So di Mar and Lah Ti Dar, who were all owned by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber , but was outbidded by the moneybags syndicate of Qatar Racing and it’s a must watch race .
8.10 PREMIUM RACE
8.40 This has a winnable look to it and I’m with the in form all weather horse in Persian Sun who has Ok form both on turf and running fresh .
¼ pt ew Persian Sun @ 11/1
