Selected Bangor – good ground on this flat and sharp track
12.00 A very weak opener which is very much at the mercy of the in form Isaac Wonder , who won a competitive Southwell chase last time and the switch to hurdles no issue . If you’re a big hitter, this is your bet of the day .
1.00Whisky And Water is the fav but drops in trip, is up in the ratings and goes chasing for the first time , so enough to do . Cardigan Bay has clear claims on last year’s form , but is presently in a rut and can only be watched for now while Lantiern’s stable is currently struggling badly . Aint My Fault is massively consistent but needs softer ground so I’m trying the usually reliable Global Tour, who ran a rare bad one last time and worth a dabble chasing the first time .
½ pt win Global Tour @ 10/1
1.30 This looks a match between Floral Banquet and Mabela , who crossed swords last season with the latter coming out on top by 3 lengths but the tip has a 4 pound pull and her rival is 0 from 3 on left handed tracks .
½ pt win Floral Banquet @ 3/1
2.00 A very open stayers handicap and you can make a case for almost all but the nod goes to the reliable and strong staying Black Buble .
¼ pt win Black Buble @ 7/2
2.30 Bandsman was well backed last time in a good event at Uttoxeter and finished an excellent 2nd with the admirable Paddleyourowncanoe just a few lengths behind in 4th , and at the revised weights, wont be much between them again , but I like a longshot at the odds in the useful Ennistown who has done little wrong since going chasing and won over hurdles last season off a mark just 3 pounds lower. The stable has a terrific record with first timers in handicap chases .
¼ pt ew Ennistown @ 16/1
Selected Goodwood – good ground on this undulating , sharp and tricky track
1.10 The short priced fav is Waliyak , but is up in the weights and trip , so not a great bet at short odds. Be more is 1 from 1 at this trip , so is well respected despite the penalty and also doubts regarding the suitability of this track . After landing a big field maiden last season in the mud, Chamade has had some ambitious assignments in Group and listed company , where she hasn’t run badly and is in calmer waters today . Lake Lucerne runs for top connections and after landing a win at Chelmsford City , only running to an Ok level, she was aimed at Group 3 company in the mud where she wasn’t disgraced . Split stake
¼ pt ew Chamade @ 14/1 ¼ pt win Lake Lucerne – ¼ pt rev Fc
1.45 The Goodwood Marathon, a unique race and historically , best be is to be with those who have run well in this before. Seinesational was a cracking 2nd in this last year , and was just outbattled late on and is on the same mark today and two runs this season will have put him bang on for going one place better. The ultra reliable True Destiny was 4th last year , and despite being 4 pounds higher , is not out of this . Mark Johnston is always to be feared at this meeting and runs a couple of proven stayers in Summer Moon and Rochester House who have clear claims , along with at least half a dozen more. Very tough race.
¼ pt ew Seinesational @ 11/1
2.15 Plenty of unexposed and prolific 3yos in another tough contest . The hat-trick seeking Mambo Nights is likely to be at home over C&D after a win at Ripon , but he has the run of the race that day , so would do very well to hold these at bay off a 7 pound higher mark , and a soft lead is unlikely . Sarvan has s lot more to with a hefty penalty as do Carlos Feliz and Cozone while the hat-trick seeking A Star above is another on a tough mark and drying ground no help . Win O’Clock has won 2 of his last 3 and looks capable of more but the nod goes to the Mark Johnston trained Glenties who improved last time when switching to hold up tactics and the 4 pound hit could have been worse. The stable has won this 4 times from just 9 runners !
½ pt win Glenties @ 5/1
2.45 PREMIUM RACE
3.15 An absolute blinder of a Group 1 which sees the unbeaten Siskin taking on some older horses and has a bit to do at the weights. Kameko landed the English 2000 Guineas and was far from disgraced 4th in the Epsom Derby, considering his stamina doubts , and has clear claims in this . Mohaather pulverised them at Royal ascot but questions to answer on this very different track . I give the nod to the triple Group 1 winning Circus Maximus as he can combines class with a most determined attitude and has a winning chance at the weights
½ pt win Circus Maximus @ 5/1
3.45 A very open small field Class 2 and hard to rule any out ,but newcomer Lady Amalthea would do very well to get involved . At the odds I’m with Mark Johnston’s Pelakai , who could take some catching over this speedy C&d .
¼ pt win Pelakai @ 6/1
4.20 A wide open finale and the bang in form Arigato is well drawn and despite now being on a tough mark , wont be far away .
¼ pt win Arigato @ 9/2
Selected Thirsk – good ground on this flat and galloping track- speed track
4.30 Looks very much a match but the slightly stronger form of Blind Beggar gives him in the nod over poorly drawn Digital .
¼ pt win Blind Beggar @ 15/8
5.00 PREMIUM RACE
5.30 The odds on fav is With Thanks who is 1 from 1 and it came in Newmarket mud 9 months ago , so a bit to prove on better ground , a much sharper track and carrying a penalty . Newcomer Avebury cost a packet and runs in famous colours for a top stable but the consistent Benefit Street brings pretty good form to the table and looks an ew bet for nothing .
½ pt ew Benefit Street @ 6/1
6.00 PREMIUM RACE
6.30 The short priced fav is the impossible to knock Top rank who is 3 from 3 but does return from a 10 month break off a testing 8 pound higher mark . The handicapper gave Star of Southwold a chance last time and he put in a much improved effort when an excellent 2nd of 17 at York , running all the way to the line after being front rank throughout . He’s been unlucky In the draw tonight and there are other front runners in the field , but disputed a strong pace last time and has winning form on tight tracks .
½ pt ew Star of Southwold @ 7/1
7.00 Glen Force should carry a Govt wealth Warning as placed in all 5 runs and looking hard to win with . He brings the best form to the table , but I couldn’t recommend him at around even money , especially with Wondrous Words looking dangerous .
7.30 Another weak event and should be easy peasy for Polar Appeal, but not for me at odds on .
8.00 Moonlighting is hard to knock and despite a nudge up the weights, this course winner is preferred.
¼ pt win Moonlighting @ 11/2
8.30 Matewan comes into this in consistent form and wasn’t disgraced in higher grade last time, nice ew play.
¼ pt ew Matewan @ 10/1
Selected Galway – good ground on this undulating , galloping and stiff track
5.15 Rescue Passage was a ready winner last time and makes longshot appeal off a fair mark in a tricky heat .
¼ pt ew Rescue Passage @ 14/1
5.45 The short priced fav is Willie Mullins Kaatskill Nap , who returns after an almost 2 year absence and a recent pop on the flat had little encouragement for his well being . This doesn’t look a deep contest and the bumper winner Hand in My Pocket brings good form to the table and is preferred .
¼ pt win Hand in My Pocket @ 11/4
6.15 PREMIUM RACE
6.45 The very valuable Galway Plate and I’m with the ever reliable Peregrine Run who was a close 4th in this last year and comes here in the kind of form to be at the very least hopeful of another big run , especially on drying ground .
½ pt ew Peregrine Run @ 14/1
