Selected Southwell- good ground on this flat and sharp track
12.00 Hard to pick between recent C&D winner Glengar , who has a stiff penalty but is only young and possibly ahead of the game, and track form counts for plenty here, The useful hurdler Jens Boy , who runs for Champion Trainer Nicky Henderson who does very well here and the lightly raced Waitonit , who’s also with a good stable and the longer trip is a smart move ???
12.30 Lord Condi came into his last race , which was over C&D , with plenty to prove as he’d been puled up in them all, so hard to be certain which Lord Condi will turn up today , and has a stiff penalty as does Tikkinthebox. I was very much with Youracert when behind Lord Condi , but could only manage a decent 4th , but with that run under his belt and a pull in the weights , could land a winnable contest .
½ pt win Youracert @ 7/2
1.00The inform pair of Shoal Bay and Irish Prophet look likely to fight this out and very hard to split .
1.30 Pogo I Am landed a modest event last time and would do well to double up carrying the penalty . Angel’s whisper is an in form flat horse rated a decent 79 and worth a dabble trying hurdles .
¼ pt win Angel’s Whisper @ 7/2
2.30 PREMIUM RACE
3.00 PREMIUM RACE
3.30 The Distant Lady gave them a head start over C&D and still sluiced in and the 7 pound penalty most unlikely to prevent the double against modest opposition , but is 1/2.
Selected Goodwood- good ground on this undulating ,sharp and tricky track
1.10 There’ll be no hanging about in this with the in form pair of Electric Ladyland and Glamorous Anna sure to fly out and the admirable Bal Mal , who comes here on a 5 timer and is 5 from 5 at 5 furlongs, serving it up just behind, so a vey strong pace assured . Bal Mal was all out when winning last time at Chepstow, and would do very well to maintain his winning spree off a 6 pound higher mark . the fav is Caspian Queen who was narrowly defeated by Electric Ladyland over C&d, but has been nudged up the weights which gives the consistent Spanish Angel hopes as he’s closely matched with the above pair , and is a late player so has an excellent race make up and Murphy rides. I’m taking a chance with Hand On My Heart, who is with a good stable and won well on debut last year but was then considered good enough to try Group 3 company twice, once at Royal Ascot , then in France . He could have done better on his comeback spin which was in Listed company, but at the odds , worth a try .
¼ pt ew Hand On my Heart @ 16/1 ¼ pt win Spanish angel – ¼ pt rev fc
1.45 PREMIUM RACE
2.15 Qaader performed wonders when 2nd at Royal Ascot from a poor draw and had three of these well back in the pack. He was the fav for a subsequent Newmarket Group 2 but tried to make all on easy ground and a stiff circuit and could only manage 4th . He is the likely pacesetter and this speedier test will suit . His old rival Yazaman will be closing fast , but hopefully , too late.
½ pt win Qaader @ 4/1
2.45 Four of these ran in the Epsom derby , which was a race where the winner stole a march on the rest of the field and before they could get serious, the bird had flown. Fav that day was English King , who was entitled to be but was only 5th , finishing alongside Mogul but just behind Khalifa Set , who’s good odds to confirm the form . The dark horse is certainly Al aasy , but this is a massive step up in grade .
½ pt win Khalifa sat @ 13/2
3.15 The Japanese mare won this with authority last year and then held her form well in top races and has every chance of the double at very nice odds.
½ pt win Deidre @ 11/2
Selected Galway- soft ground on this undulating , galloping and stiff track
Just having the one play as good bets look thin on the ground
6.45 The very valuable Galway Hurdle and you have to respect the chances of many , but the two English raiders , the in form pair of fair mountain and Hunters Call wont be at home on the soft ground . Willie Mullins is well represented with 5 runners and the one that catches my eye is the consistent Mt leinster an easy winner here of a maiden on the flat just a few days back on testing ground and goes handicapping off a very fair mark considering he usually competes in graded company , and hasn’t done badly at all . Gordon Elliott saddles the fav In Felix desjy who was a good winner on the flat recently on his comeback spin and his last 3 runs over hurdles have been in Grade 1 company, so wont know himself in a handicap but at the odds I prefer Elliot’s other runner in the youngster Aramax whose last victory came at The Cheltenham Festival in the mud , winning pretty much as he liked beating a big field and is only 4 pounds higher today .
½ pt ew each Mt Leinster @ 12/1 Aramax @ 9/1 . ¼ pt rev fc
Selected Musselburgh – good ground on this flat , galloping and quick track
Sorry folks , another card where hard to find any worthwhile bets – lots of big field low grade affairs full of very rare winners !
5.30 The veteran mare has been a terrific servant to connections over the years and while she’s nowhere near as good as she was , she’s been going pretty well of late and was far from disgraced when 5th of 11 over C&d a few runs back in a much better race . She’s 4 pounds lower tonight and also has a great draw, hard up against the favoured stands rails .
½ pt win Economic Crisis @ 9/2
6.30 The flying Gowanbuster has burned them off from the front the last twice over C&d , but would do very well to land the hat-trick off a 10 pound higher mark . the capable Lomu is on a workable mark and this C&d could land this at nice odds.
¼ pt win Lomu @ 13/2
