Today’s Fortune for a fiver
3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Quivvy Lough 2.00 @ 4/1
Tel’Art 3.10 @ 11/2
Cloak of Spirits 1.50 @ 7/2
Selected Uttoxeter – good ground on this quite sharp, gently undulating track with a long run straight .
12.30 The fav is useful chaser Topofthecotswolds, but I never like to be with horses who have several lengthy breaks and switches to hurdles today . Diamond River looked good landing a bumper here for the Champion trainer and is preferred as he’s bred to be a jumper .
¼ pt win Diamond River @ 2/1
1.00A good quality Novice Chase and none of these are mugs but both Fusil raffles and Gumball have very lofty ratings over hurdles and both try fences for the first time , and as the latter is slightly higher rated , has to be the play.
¼ pt win Gumball @ 2/1
1.30 This has a winnable look to it and two if the main contenders in Pens Man and Viking Ruby wear first time headgear which hasn’t helped stable runners in the past , but the latter won well over C&D recently and backed that up with a big run at Market Rasen , so worth a dabble at the odds.
¼ pt win Viking Ruby @ 15/2
2.00 More quantity than quality and despite a 5 pound hit, the lightly raced Quivvy Lough can land the C&d double .
1/2 pt win Quivvy Lough @ 4/1
2.35 PREMIUM RACE
3.10 Tea Clipper landed his first 3 races last season but was only 2nd when upped to this trip and has been nudged up higher in the ratings . The reliable Tel’art is very likely to try and make all down In trip and while on a workable mark , slight question mark whether it’s too testing down in trip , but likely to get his own way up front and as he stays much further , could be hard to reel in .
¾ pt win Tel’ Art @ 11/2
4.20 PREMIUM RACE
Selected Newmarket = good to soft on this undulating , galloping and stiff track
A cracking card but unfortunately heavy rain is forecast for the day , which of course makes winner finding all the more difficult .
1.50 Cloak of Spirits has a clear advantage at the ratings and no issues with soft ground and runs this track well. He ran well last time considering he was down in trip and expect a prominent ride and a big run .
¾ pt win Cloak of Spirits @ 7/2
2.25 a right conundrum
3.00 Isabella Giies is proven at the trip and ground but Monday runs for Aidan O’Brien , and this one wasn’t at her best on soft ground , but it was her debut .The Mark Johnston filly Alba Rose is the dark horse .
3.35 Benbatl is rated a lofty 125 , but soft ground not his thing while 2000 guines winner Kameko has held his form pretty well in deep company , but soft ground an unknown . Top Rank is a cracking racehorse and proven on soft ground , but has a bit to find at the ratings . Another race I’m happy to watch .
4.10 Another tricky contest with the one to beat at the ratings , Loxley , returning from a lengthy break and is also a bit in and out .
No advice from Listowel today on the heavy ground
Selected Haydock good ground on this flat and galloping track
2.15 The 4 timer seeking Straitoutacompton returns from a break off a much higher mark , switching from the all weather and up in trip !!!! The fav is Vulcan who gained a deserved win here last time but the longer trip , the penalty and drying ground all negatives . Silent Performance is in form but does switch from the all weather so the nod goes to Sir Charles Punch , who is rarely far away but is the type who needs it to drop just right , but C&D form good enough to be in the mix, at least .
¼ pt ew Sir Charles Punch @ 13/2
2.50 After two good runs, it should be 3rd time lucky for Terrichang m, but not for me at 4/6 .
3.25 Significantly has become very easy to take on and this longer trip looks a desperate move. Marlay Park goes a good gallop and has the form to land this. Kawaalees has claims and both Helmont and Koepp are interesting newcomers .
½ pt win Marley Park @ 5/2
4.00 Atalis Boy impressed last time with an all the way win At Kempton , but is proven on turf . The 8 pound hit will test , but it’s looking workable mark , but the drop in trip is a worry , especially as Blind Beggar has early five furlong pace , but this one has switched stables to Richard fahey, who doesn’t do well with new intakes. Riffaa Wonder is the short priced fav and looks the likely winner despite the penalty , but this looks tricky . The in form Nastase could struggle with the drop in trip.
4.35 You could make a case for almost of these but the nod goes to the lightly raced Noble Masquerade with this longer trip likely to bring improvement .
¼ pt ew Noble Masquerade @ 7/1
5.05 PREMIUM RACE
5.35 Hesslewood certainly deserves a win after two close seconds at Ripon , and the winner of his latest 2nd has gone on to win well under a penalty . The 1 pound hit could have been worse and he is proven over C&D and handles all ground. Well drawn but bit worried with Luke Morris now in the saddle who has poor success rate here , but is still preferred .
½ pt win Hesselwood @ 4/1
Selected Newcastle – all weather – tapeta . The track is stiff and galloping
5.55 A few seasons ago Lord Of The Glen was looking a youngster with a future with 3 wins over C&d and some good efforts on turf , but he struggled off a testing mark and understandably lost his confidence . There were definite signs at the back end of last season back to a realistic mark , but wasn’t looking a winner about to happen, but that all changed last time out, back over his favourite C&D off a very low mark and he landed a much better race than this , winning as he liked . the 3 pound hit could have been far harsher and expect another late move to land the double .
¾ pt win Lord of The Glen @ 7/4
6.30 PREMIUM RACE
7.00 Sea Storm ran two Ok races for the good stable of Martin Meade last season and did well for fellow Scouser Ann Duffield with a good 3rd over C&D just behind Etikaal and fair to expect even better as this is just her 4th ever race .
¼ pt ew Sea Storm @ 7/1
8.00 Great Colaci is admirably consistent with a good record over C&d. He’s a little high in the weights, but not by much and looks most solid ew . The young 7 pound claimer has ridden this straight forward type already . This is not deep .
½ pt ew Great Colaci @ 6/1
8.30 A wide open finale but hard to get excited about prospects of recent shock track winner Another angel with a penalty and over a trip which has foiled in the past . There is plenty of early pace on which will help the capable if luckless My Kinda Day , who went very close earlier in the season over C&D off around this mark chinned by one now competitive off much higher marks . Consistent veteran Lucky Lodge goes well here and another good run likely .
¼ pt ew My Kinda Day @ 8/1
Selected Dundalk – all weather – polytrack
4.40 SEbs Star is a real speedball and shot off here last time , just to be chinned close home . The drop in trip is unlikely to be an issue and could take a bit of catching . The fav is the consistent Sestriere , but 0 wins from 19 not encouraging .
¼ pt ew Sebs Star @ 7/1
6.15 Fit For Function is a regular over C&D and recently returned from a break with a decent effort here over further and has a much better chance than most in this typical Dundalk handicap .
¼ pt ew Fit For Function @ 10/1
6.45 The best race on the card by some way , a group 3 with a short priced fav in the downgraded Vatican City , who only has a couple of pounds in hand . He’s proven on the surface and should be fine at the trip, but not appealing at short odds with so many decent types in opposition . Crossfirehurricane, Bowerman and Bolleville all have clear claims with the nod going to the latter after good runs in Group company the last twice, but has to be trusted on the surface .
¼ pt ew Bolleville @ 13/2
