Today's Fortune for a fiver
Spring Run 12.20 @ 7/2
Hurricane Mitch 12.40 @ 9/4
Blame the Game 12.50 @ 5/2
Selected Plumpton – soft ground on this gently undulating and sharp track
12.20 The odds on fav is soft ground bumper winner Midnight Callisto , but the level of form is just OK and I prefer the reliable Spring Run , a good 2nd on her hurdles debut on easy ground at Ffos Las so this stayer could find things happening a bit quickly round here and the ground is a bit softer but should still give us a good run .
¼ pt win Spring Run @ 7/2
12.50 Another short priced fav is Linelee King , an easy winner in a weak event at Kelso on easy ground , but did look good and also looked the part landing a bumper . The longer trip shouldn’t be an issue but does carry the dreaded penalty so preference is for Blame The Game , a good 3rd on soft ground on his recent hurdles debut and the 2nd horse landed an Ascot handicap on Saturday . The stable has a terrific record here and if electing to front run again, could take some catching .
¼ pt win Blame The Game @ 9/4
1.20 The problem here is NONE of these are effective on soft ground !!
1.55 A good quality Class 3 and it’s competitive. The useful Amour De Nuit can only be watched returning from almost 2 years off and soft ground not his thing and Oscarsman is very hard to fancy . The other four have claims but Little Rory Mac does resume duties on a testing mark, goes up in trip and needed his first few starts last year Buckgeorge Thorn is respected as is Langer Dan but the front running Vive Le roi is slowly coming down the ratings and wont go down without a fight .
¼ pt win Vive Le Roi @ 7/1
2.30 The Brothers returned from a year off to win in the Fontwell mud and has clear claims off just 3 pounds higher , but he could be a bouncer , but odds are fair enough to take the chance in a very modest heat .
½ pt win The Brothers @ 6/4
3.05 Few of these will be comfortable on the soft ground which makes Cawthorne Lad of interest as he handles the ground well and the switch to the Jonjo O’Neill stable could well bring him on .
¼ pt win Cawthorne Lad @ 6/1
3.40 The fav is the lightly raced Nocturnal Myth , who returns after 18 months off and form is very ordinary and not at his best on soft ground but the bookies are running scared of anything from the Anthony Honeyball stable presently but this one looks well worth taking on. This is a very weak heat and the clear form horse is Sixties Secret who after a win over C&D on fast ground held her form well with a close 4th at Fontwell , off her new mark . She handles soft ground well enough and the 7 pound claimer rode her well to victory here last time . She’s a willing late player and will have a good pace to aim at .
¾ pt win Sixties Secret @ 3/1
4.10 The fav is well handicapped The Darley Man having his first run for the good stable of Richard Newland , but again opposable on soft ground . The front running Galtee Mountain is now on a testing enough mark but will run his race and could take some catching in a modest finale .
¼ pt ew Galtee Mountain @ 11/2
Selected Hereford – soft ground on this flat and sharp track
12.40 The short priced fav is decent bumper horse Lord Apparelli , but he jumped poorly on his recent hurdles debut and needs much slicker leaping today . In a modest novice event , the nod goes to another one with decent soft ground bumper form in Hurricane Mitch , who is related to useful hurdlers.
½ pt win Hurricane mitch @ 9/4
1.10 The in form Airton could struggle on the ground as could the unexposed My mums posh . Cushuish only ran twice last season, doing well both times. She returns from another long break but is on a workable mark , no issues with the trip and probably track and has winning form on easy ground .
¼ pt ew Cushuish @ 15/2
2.45 Kato The king got it right good style last time but it was a modest heat and the 7 pound hit and softer ground make demands. Oscar Robertson did well on his comeback spin and softer ground no issue .
¼ pt win Oscar Robertson @ 3/1
3.20 The ground is the issue for the in form Pair of Getawaytonewbay and Princess midnight . Beet Topper’s form figures are more alphabetical than numerical but is pretty short in the market as he has his first try for the top stable of Fergal O’Brien , but desperately hard to fancy on paper. Both Wisecracer and Dragons Khan tend to run their races but wins are elusive . The latter is worth an ew dabble coming here in good form and a liking for soft terrain .
¼ pt ew Dragon Khan @ 10/1
Back with the all weather cards later
No advice for The Curragh
Selected Kempton – all weather – polytrack
1.50 PREMIUM RACE
2.00 Perfect Inch certainly brings the strongest form to the event and is proven over C&d but she’s been 2nd four times and still hasn’t rung the victory bell . There are horses who “ Freeze” when the battle for the line commences and she does look a pushover in the finish and happy to take her on with the Godolphin newcomer in Nations Beauty .
¼ pt win Nations Beauty @ 6/1
2.55 PREMIUM RACE
3.30 A right puzzle
4.05 Aratus clearly brings the best form to the race with a good 2nd on debut at Newbury , but was a rank outsider that day and it was 6 weeks ago . He should be fine on the surface and is well drawn but the top stable is struggling for winners presently . There’s been plenty of support for newcomer Ilza’Eem , which is no surprise. His value rocketed from £21,000 as a yearling to £260,000 as a 2yo , often a very good sign of a smart type . Bred for the surface and has to be worth a play .
½ pt win Ilza’eem @ 7/4
4.35 A good quality yet tricky Class 1 and the front running Palavacino is 2 from 2 over C&D, but may not have the lead to himself today and has a bit to do in this class. Kirstenbosch did as well as could have been expected chasing home the legendary Enable over C&D when last seen 2 months back and had the useful Prince of Arran just behind, so a good run. The highest rated is former crack German horse Alounak but hasn’t fired since joining Andrew Balding and has only won 1 of his last 17 ! Loxley has become difficult to predict but put his best side out in Meydan in the Spring when landing a Group 2 , running to a level of 111. He recently returned to action with a lifeless display at Newmarket ,but that was the case last year and then put in a classy series of runs . Just a dabble for me.
¼ pt win Loxley @ 2/1
5.05 Another equine headache
5.35 Again a race where a handful have similar chances
Selected Wolver – all weather – tapeta
4.15 The in form Freedom and Wharf loves it here but is now on a testing mark and the longer trip could well catch him out , but this is a winnable heat with the short priced fav being the hard to win with and badly drawn Sir Hamilton. This could be a boilover but can’t find a lively longshot .
5.20 Batraan went close at Newcastle so proven on the surface and this well drawn colt looks another winner for top connections, but is 1/2.
5.50 PREMIUM RACE
6.20 Another race with a number of different scenarios .
6.50 Prince of Rome got back on the scoresheet recently with a good win over C&d with Reassure, tathmeen and You’re cool not far behind . The latter is better drawn today and could get a soft lead in this field and a nice ew play . the Fav is the back to form Outrage, but this habitual slow starter could struggle to get competitive from a bad draw and this tighter track .
¼ pt ew You’re Cool @ 8/1
7.20 I was originally going to play the in form Heer We Go again from a good draw and proven over C&D off this mark but the jockey booking could have been much more positive . The daley express is a recent turf winner and effective here but would do well to land this off a testing mark from a bad draw. The nod goes to C&D regular Mutabaahy, well drawn and in form.
¼ pt win Mutabaahy @ 4/1
7.50 Café Sydney should win more than he does but no excuses tonight coming into this in decent form and runs this C&D very well.A good pace is likely which will suit this late player and Tom Marquand in the saddle could make all the difference.
¼ pt win Café Sydney @ 4/1
8.20 I was with Plansina last time out when she made a most overdue return to the winner’s circle, notching her first win for over two years, but was worth the risk off a good mark and had been going well over C&d. She was going so so easily but still at the back of the pack with just a furlong to go but when Finely Marsh released her, she flew home for a clever win . a good pace is on the cards again and off just a 2 pound higher mark , the double is on .
¾ pt win Plansina @ 7/2
