Today’s Fortune for a fiver 3 £1 Doubles & £1 ew treble
Wild Max 1.45 @ 9/4
Project Mars 2.45 @ 5/2
Drewmain Legend 3.37 @ 7/2
Selected Huntingdon – good ground on this flat and galloping track
12.15 A weak novice event and looks good for Marada to land the double, but is 1/2 .
12.45 Only two go but the bookies are having a hard time splitting the pair . There’s little between them on the ratings but Master Tommytucker is likely to try and make all but Is often too brave for his own good and in 5 chase starts has a win, 3 falls and was lucky to get round last time over the soft fences of Newton Abbot . He also goes up in trip and so does Precious Cargo , who could find this ground quick enough ?? It’s great race for headless gamblers as you’re getting around even money for your wedge but despite just two runners it’s full of ifs and buts .
1.15 NONE of these are running well and easy to swerve
1.45 the lightly raced youngster Wild Max won his first two very well for his top stable but then disappointed when fav in a soft ground Class 2 event but was unlucky last time in a big field handicap at Cheltenham when badly hampered late on , but was still 4th of 17 . Compensation awaits in a winnable heat .
½ pt win Wild Max @ 9/4
2.15 A Veteran’s race for conditional jockeys and the vast majority if these are wrapped in cotton wool nowadays with very few racecourse appearances and it’s just too risky .
2.45 The consistent Project Mars is a little high in the ratings but looked the winner at Market Rasen last time at this trip until being run down by a pair of unexposed ones . This looks easier .
½ pt win Project Mars @ 5/2
3.50 An interesting bumper with quite a few flat stables involved . Top trainer Andrew Balding runs Roman Knows , who wasn’t cheap and well related . Has to be worth a dabble at the odds.
¼ pt win Roman Knows @ 7/1
Selected Hereford – good to soft on this flat and sharp track
12.37 A weak novice event and the fav is Loughran , a close 2nd over C&D on soft ground last season but only an OK run last time , but the fast ground may have caught him out . Doesn’t look straightforward and not for me at short odds Getaweapon has OK bumper form but does have his 2nd race back after a long break so could be a bouncer .
1.07 This is more about quantity than quality and a tough task for recent winner Stupid Cupid with a hefty penalty , going up in trip and on softer ground. Mr Palmtree won well last time but the penalty and soft ground are seriously against him today. Trumps Benefit has run some good races off this mark and trip of late and looked in control until taking a late fall last time . Softer ground not ideal but this front runner is still preferred .
½ pt win trumps Benefit @ 6/1
1.37 The fav is Mustang alpha after a big run here last time and the longer trip is in his favour but the soft ground a concern . Premiumacess runs for a top stable and could have done better on his comeback spin but Lingfield is not every horse’s cup of tea. Longer trip is in his favour and could land a winnable heat .
¼ pt ew Premiumaccess @ 10/1
2.07 PREMIUM RACE
2.37 The useful William Henry has left the top stable of Nicky Henderson and has his first run for the capable Sam Thomas yard but they have a poor record with new intakes . He’s rated a very lofty 157 over hurdles , which puts him about 2 stones ahead of his only serious rivals in diomede Des Mottes , pulled up last time and that being his 2nd race back from a break , only the true faithful will be with him today . The other with a chance is the ultra reliable Lies About milan , big runs in all tries last season but is a real mudlover , and the ground is drying and has had a wind op, not a positive for the top stable. William Henry has only ever tried fences once before and was pulled up , but it was a classy event and the saddle did slip , but his jumping was poor up to that mishap , he also finds this trio far enough . Has to be Milan .
¾ pt win Lies about Milan @ 9/4
3.07 Dolcita ended last season with a brilliant 2nd in the mares hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and has since left Willie Mullins and joined Paul Nicholls. He had Getawy to the rock miles behind that day , but they are closely matched on official ratings and this is going to be tactical .
3.37 Not a deep handicap and a clear chance for the usually reliable Drewmain Legend, who came to hand early last season and no issues with trip or ground . She’s on a tough enough mark and this track could be tight enough , but expected to get away with it. Knight Commander has been a revelation of late and came into his last race on a hat-trick but was uncharacteristically mulish at the start , practically refusing to race . It’s not rare for horses in a purple patch suddenly just having enough and becoming roguish .
½ pt win Drewmain Legend @ 7/2
4.12 Spin The Coin was looking very much the winner last time until taking a late fall . Slightly softer ground today but has to be a nice ew play for an in form stable .
¼ pt ew Spin The Coin @ 7/1
Sadly another disappointing card over the sticks at Lingfield and with deep ground in prospect , just the one play.
2.53 Kingston Mimosa won this last year off a 6 pound lower mark but does return to duties after a longer than usual break . This is not a deep race and if ready to go , could land the double .
¼ pt ew Kingston Mimosa @ 9/1
Newcastle – all weather – the track is stiff and galloping
2.50 A tricky opener as the serious contenders are ALL hold up types and are relying upon the once decent Wymass Point setting a decent pace , which is not certain so this could develop into a sprint . The fav is the hat-trick seeking Pax Brittanica but happy to look elsewhere with her very stiff penalty . up in trip and new to the track. Clearance just doesn’t know how to run a bad race and has won on this surface so a clear contender as is Stonific , whose last try at Wolver on this surface wasn’t bad . Bobba tee runs this track well and did well at this trip last time and just gets the nod as this very late player does have a change of gear .
¼ pt win Bobba Tee @ 4/1
3.20 Five Diamonds was a shock winner over C&D last time and is totally unexposed over C&D , but the 6 pound hit is severe . C&D regular Corked looked the likely winner in that race but the rider had him too far back and they used up too much petrol in a rapid move . He has a massive 7 pound pull, 12 if you include Billy Garrity’s allowance , but he does struggle for winners , but hard to ignore at the long odds. The admirable Traveller has held his form very well here but the longer trip is the big concern .
¼ pt ew Corked @ 18/1
3.55 With the prolific fav George Ridsdale now a NR , this has an open look to it and the new fav is the lightly raced Sky power , an improved 2nd last time in the Windsor mud, so a bit to prove over this very different C&D. Courtside did well when 2nd over C&D last time but is hard to win with so prefer a play on the inform International Law, now on a tough enough mark but goes well here and the drop in trip no issue at this track.
¼ pt ew International Law @ 10/1
4.25 Movin Time runs in famous colours for a top Southern stable with a good record here. He ran really well on his debut over C&D which gives him the edge over market rival Mithras.
½ pt win Movin Time @ 6/4
4.55 All of Lady Rockstar, Miss Finland and Mystical Air are al well bred newcomers for top Southern stables but experience counts for plenty and Turandot has run well being placed in all 3 runs, one over C&D.
¼ pt win Turandot @ 7/2
5.25 PREMIUM RACE
5.55. Imperial Butterfly goes for the C&D hat-trick but is up significantly In the ratings and grade. The in form Conservatoire goes for the hat-trick and could do it on just a 4 pound higher mark . His wins have come on heavy ground but related to all weather winners and the top stable has a terrific record here with juvenile. The in form Pockley has form here but at shorter trips and lower marks.
½ pt win Conservatoire @ 6/4
