3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Above 4.05 @ 8/1
Flic Du Voyou 12.40 @ 4/1
Clan Des Obeaux 3.00 @ 2/1
Selected Wetherby- very soft ground on this flat and galloping track
11.50 Have to agree with the bookies making this a 4 horse war between recent winner Global Harmony , who carries the dreaded penalty and ground will be soft enough, Tequila Blaze who put an improved run at Lingfield at this trip on deep ground when 2nd but the winner did little for the form next time, decent bumper winner Hollymount Holly, but a bit to prove hurdling first time up in trip and the consistent Fairfield Ferrata , yet to run a bad race and ground / trip in his favour.
¼ pt win Fairfield Ferrata @ 6/1
12.20 It’s hard fancying many in this and worth trying recent Donny winner Mance Rayder , who sluiced in that day and was still in contention when falling over C&D in the mud off his new testing mark . Could just be up to this .
¼ pt ew Mance Rayder @ 12/1
12.53 Another race where quantity exceeds quality and a decent chance that Imperial Icon can double up a recent win at this trip in the mud , beating an in form rival and defy the 6 pound hit . Kyoto Star gives the impression this longer trip will suit and looks a lively longshot, but the tip is preferred .
¼ pt win Imperial Icon @ 11/4
1.28 PREMIUM RACE
2.05 PREMIUM RACE
2.40 PREMIUM RACE
3.13 Applaus comes into this on the back of two mighty runs In the Carlisle mud but has a good record here when the mud is flying . The 4 pound hit makes life tougher but this prominent and determined type is preferred in a winnable finale .
¼ pt ew Applaus @ 8/1
Selected Wincanton – very soft ground on this flat and galloping track
12.25 Despite the big field few have high hopes and decent chance that recent winner Shore Shanty can defy the penalty bringing pretty good form to the table .
¼ pt win Shore Shanty @ 11/4
12.59 Very tricky stuff
1.34 Not a deep race and offers a good opportunity for the reliable Nearly Perfect to double up and go 3 from 4 over C&D in the mud. He won well at Wetherby last time under a typically positive ride and despite the 5 pound hit , the opposition isn’t strong . Only concern is that a 7 pound claimer takes the reins and he doesn’t ride many winners .
¼ pt win Nearly Perfect @ 2/1
2.10 Despite the big field very few are in top form , on decent marks and ground soft enough . Amelia’s Dance comes here on the back of a good run at Uttoxeter behind one who has won a decent contest since . Up 2 pounds but that form gives her a nice ew chance .
¼ pt ew Amelia’s Dance @ 9/1
2.45 Quite a few in form ones but all have attracted the unwanted attention of the handicapper . Jacamar has been far from disgraced since landing a decent event at this trip in the Aintree mud , just a bit worried with a change of jockey , but still a nice ew play .
¼ pt ew Jacamar @ 12/1
3.19 A lot of question marks against plenty of these in terms of trip and ground and happy to play Mines A Pint , a winner on soft ground a few starts ago and has held his form pretty well since. Decent effort last time over a trip too short .
¼ pt ew Mines A Pint @ 8/1
Selected Kempton – good to soft but could dry to good . The track is flat and sharp .
12.40 On To Victory has been running well on the flat of late and won the fiercely competitive November handicap on deep ground and backed that up with an OK effort on the all weather but jumps form not that great and hard to see him featuring around this sharp C&d and ground well lively enough . The market is headed by the reliable and prolific pair of Flic Du Voyou and Third Time Lucky , but the former is very likely to get a soft lead and with the ground and a speedy C&D in his favour , could well make every post a winning post .
½ pt win Flic Du Voyou @ 4/1
1.15 Found myself going round in circles with this one .
1.50 A good quality Grade 1 novice chase and despite If The Cap Fits being the one to beat on official ratings , is a bit in and out , as he was last time and tends to go backwards each season . The fav is the highly promising Shan Blue who is 2 from 2 over fences . looking the real deal and this C&D is likely to suit well as will the ground . Not an easy task but still the one to beat .
½ pt win Shan Blue @ 2/1
2.25 The Champion Hurdler Epatante is short odds to defend her crown in March and is even shorter odds today . Decent opposition but she is looking In a class of her own .
3.00 The King George VI chase and winner for the last two years Clan Des Obeaux warmed up for this with a creditable effort in the Haydock mud behind track specialist Bristol De Mai and despite the good field, this looks a match between him and the highest rated horse in Britain in Cyrname , who was well held in 3rd last year , looking a non stayer but dispelled that theory last time with a really good win at this distance at Wetherby ,but I’m with the champ .
½ pt win Clan Des Obeaux @ 2/1
3.35 Practically an impossible finale .
Selected Wolver – all weather – tapeta
1.45 The fav is the lightly raced Aldrich Bat who sluiced in at Lingfield last time making all but besides switching surfaces he has a very hefty 12 pound penalty and drops markedly in trip, so enough to consider there . Fashion Free is hard to predict but did it well at Newcastle last time , but is still 5 pounds higher than his best run over C&d when a 2 lengths 5th . Carey Street ran well over C&D last time when having the run of the race from the front and is closely matched with the back to form KIngson , who shouldn’t be far away and worth a dabble at nice odds.
¼ pt ew Kingson @ 11/1
2.20 My Members were on Big Country last time when he made all at Chelmsford City and he’s 2 from 2 here but unlikely to have a soft lead today as the highly consistent Make It Rain also likes to lie handy . He lost his all weather unbeaten record last time when short headed by the veery tough Yes My boy and is up a further 2 pounds today . He may just get away with it but these two could go to war and set tis up for the more patiently ridden ones . Daheer has won 3 of his last 4 all over C&D and has to be considered despite the 5 pound hit and raise in grade . The nod goes to recent C&D winner Kryptos , who will be suited coming off this likely strong pace.
¼ pt win Kryptos @ 13/2
2.55 Nothing really fits the bill and you can make a decent case for half of the field .
3.30 A good quality Class 2 handicap and he fav is the revitalised Misty Grey , a useful type for Mark Johnston but lost his way of late but is 2 from 2 for nis new trainer Tom Dascombe , but is now back on a testing mark and would do well to land the hat-trick but of course , not ruled out. Papa Sour is an admirable type with 3 wins from 4 starts this season , but would do well to win again off a career high mark and best form is on polytrack . The useful Amarillo Star has stamina to prove but Imtuitive comes into this with solid clams. I’ve been with the capable veteran Sir Maximillian a few times of late as he’s on a good mark and going pretty well . Things haven’t dropped right for him but with a strong pace likely , is likely to run well at long odds and has run well here before. Tranchee put together a terrific series of runs on turf of late and this C&D winner is not ruled out either in what promises to be a fiercely competitive heat .
¼ pt ew Sir Maximillian @ 22/1
4.05 A good quality Class 2 sprint but despite having a bit to find with a few of these at the ratings, the front running Above likes this C&D and has the draw to attempt an all the way win. He’s not been seen for 6 months when a good 2nd at Windsor and could take some picking up. Both Lord of The Lodge and On The Warpath are better off than the tip at the weights but neither have totally convinced of late while Boobala is the fav and is 2 from 2 but is the lowest rated in the field and returns from 18 months off the track from the worst of the draw.
½ pt win Above @ 8/1
