Today's Fortune for a fiver
3 50p ew doubles & £1 ew treble
The mighty Don 3.40 @ 14/1
golden Tapian 4.15 @ 14/1
Firnas 4.15 Meydan @ 12/1
Selected Kempton – all weather – polytrack
Another jumper bumper card and I had a cracking day here recently applying a combination of jumping levels and good ground horses and hoping for another good afternoon .
2.05 Dorking Lad is going well over jumps but having a preference for soft ground , could struggle for a bit of pace and the same caveat refers to the in form Time To tinker . the lightly raced Leylak is the fav and hard to argue with that but preference for Torn and Frayed , an in form decent hurdler rated 122 and goes well on good ground .
¼ pt win Torn and Frayed @ 4/1
2.40 very few have a shout in this and preference is for the reliable Roque It , two good runs over hurdles and a bumper win on good ground at Huntingdon on his CV . iron Heart hasn’t done badly over hurdles and on the flat was rated a decent 77 and was effective on polytrack .
½ pt win Roque It @ 6/4
3.10 Some decent types compete but the best over jumps is the useful elusive Belle , rated a lofty 143 and has good ground form .
½ pt win elusive Belle @ 11/8
3.40 Plenty of highly rated jumpers in this and the highest rated is The Mighty Don , who is versatile as far as trip and ground go and looks a most lively longshot .
½ pt ew The mighty Don @ 14/1
4.15 A tough task for the in form Manjaam carrying a penalty for a win in a similar event at Newcastle, and as tapeta appears to be his best surface , would do very well to feature today . Lust For Glory and Earth Moor are the highest rated jumpers and the former receives a very healthy mares allowance but Golden Taipan is no slouch and this is his kind of track and is a good ground horse . Another lively longshot .
½ p tew Golden Taipan @ 14/1
4.45 A wide open finale and the short list is very long but I’ve been with the lightly raced Goa Lil a few times of late and this young chaser could take a bit of catching if opting to setting the pace which he usually does and has a preference for good ground .
¼ pt ew Goa lil @ 9/1
No advice from Thurles
Selected Meydan – turf going good, all weather – dirt-fast . The track is majestic , flat , sweeoing and galloping .
3.05 Away He Goes is unexposed as a good ground middle distance horse and did little wrong over C&D last time from a bad draw running on well to be 3rd in a big field and despite this big field, most are hard to fancy .
¼ pt win away He goes @ 4/1
4.15 All of Blown By wind, Salute The soldier and Thegreatcollection are all proven on the surface but the longer trip is an issue. After a quick double here, one over C&d, Firnas was a costly odds on failure at Jebel ali, but back to his favourite track looks another lively longshot .
½ p tew Firnas @ 12/1
4.50 The useful Lord Glitters was awesome over C&D last time , winning very well with Zanoski 3 lenghts behind in 2nd and 3 pounds better off, but such was the manner of victory that the double looks on .
½ pt win Lord Glitters @ 6/4
5.25 A winnable sprint handicap and a decent opportunity for the evergreen Caspian Prince, now a 12yo but can still cut a dash and ran respectably when 5th over C&d last time, when unable to adopt his usual pole position up front, but came home well. He’s been one of my equine heroes sine starting this service 7 years ago and landed me plenty of big wins , and glad to see he is still rated a lofty 100 and able to still run his race .
¼ pt win Caspian Prince @ 5/1
Selected Newcastle – all weather – tapeta. The track is stiff and galloping
4.30 The short priced fav is Systematic who sauntered in over C&d last time but does have a massive 13 pound penalty ! Looks an iffy race .
5.00 Not a deep maiden and clear form horse is recent Lingfield winner Skulk , so besides carrying a penalty has to prove effectiveness over a very different C&D , but the top Southern stable doesn’t bring them on a 500 mile round trip for nothing . Newcomer Sherbet Lemon cost £200,000 and runs for another top Southern stable . 2 horse war but who wins it most uncertain .
5.30 PREMIUM RACE
6.00 PREMIUM RACE
6.30 A true run race is likely with the front running but poorly handicapped Good Night Mr Tom sure to blast out and will have company from the hard to win with but rarely far away rebel redemption and last time winner I Know How wont be far away . This one has just a 3 pound hit for a cosy win and a 7 pound claimer takes the ride, which Is see as a negative considering his inactivity of late . Nick Vedder has been in terrific form on the Southwell fibresand and his record here is also impressive but at the weights the consistent pearl Of Qatar can nail a deserved win coming here on the back of a series of good placed efforts, including over C&D .
¼ pt win Pearl of Qatar @ 4/1
7.00 PREMIUM RACE
7.30 A most winnable finale and the fav is recent C&D winner Bobby Joe Leg but the 4 pound hit wont help . The drop in trip wont help Dramatiste and Moxy Mares but will suit dual C&d winner Cmon Cmon who is only a pound higher than his last win and ran well for a long way in his recent comeback spin . We have to trust a young and inexperienced 7 pound claimer in this apprentices race, but I watched him the other day and did OK .
¼ pt win Cmon Cmon @ 11/2
