3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Battash 3.40 @ 7/4
Kylie Rules 7.10 @10/3
River Wharfe 8.50 @ 5/1
Selected Thirsk – good to firm on this flat and galloping track
1.05 A tricky opener as both Cardiff and Magnolia State both ran well on debut but both on soft ground and Najat is an interesting newcome for a strong Southern stable. Diamond Pearl did well on debut on this kind of ground but lost all chance at the start next time on easy ground . Looks a nice longshot based on his opening run.
¼ pt ew diamond Pearl @ 10/1
1.40 Four of these ran over C&d recently in a very close finish with The Armed Man , as usual setting the pace, but age has taken its toll with this one , and again he wilted late on with Mutanaaseq, Strongbowe and Dick Datchery fighting out a close finish. Strongbowe comes out marginally best at the weights , but wins are hard to come by making the tip a most solid ew play .
½ pt ew Dick Datchery @ 6/1
2.10 This looks a match between a pair of most prolific sorts in Tricorn going for the 4 timer and is 3 from 3 wearing cheekpieces and Iconic Belle who goes for the 6 timer !! Both are of course now high in the ratings and I make this 50-50 so the latter has to be the play at the odds.
¼ pt win Iconic Belle @ 4/1
2.45 Motawaajed looked good winning at Wolver last time but as he carries a penalty , goes up in trip and switches to quick turf , prefer the chance of Noble Patron who has two good runs at this trip and ground on his cv .
¼ pt win Noble Patron @ 11/4
3.20 This has a very winnable look and the reliable and capable Midnite Bride is the one to beat but she’ll need to take a handy pitch round this sharp C&d , which wont be easy from a wide draw, but still preferred .
½ pt win Midnite Bride @ 3/1
3.55 A very open contest but Seas of Elzaam would do well to double up with a stiff penalty . You could make a case for most which gives a chance to the very well handicapped Redrosezorro, who was in the process of running a good race last time until badly hampered , and chanced on ground quick enough .
¼ pt ew Redrosezorro @ 22/1
4.30 The short priced fav is Asjad , who is from 1 after a smart win in the Salisbury mud but on quicker ground , a tricky draw and carrying a penalty , I’m playing newcomer Camerata, who’s with a top stable and significantly her value zoomed from £125,000 to £380,000 from yearling to 2yo , so plenty is expected , but it may be further down the line .
¼ pt win Camerarata @ 11/2
5.10 We know where we are with these low grade sprinters so now surprises expected, so worth being with youngster Albegone after two recent big runs from the front and chanced on quicker ground .
¼ pt win Albegone @ 5/1
Selected Stratford – good to firm on this flat and sharp track
1.20 Not a deep novice hurdle and worth a dabble on Pop The Champagne who has kept some warm company in bumpers and this ex- pointer should improve now jumping .
½ pt win Pop the Champagne @ 9/4
2.20 Plenty of early pace in this which wont help those up front and the late players will profit. Sir Tivo has some good form In the book at this trip and ground off higher marks and this race will be run to suit this late player .
1/4 pt ew Sir Tivo @ 6/1
2.55 The admirable Hooper goes for the 5 timer but I prefer the chance of C&D specialist Jamacho , whose last win over C&d was in a very deep Class 2 event off around this mark .#
¼ pt win Jamacho @ 15/2
3.30 This is very weak and the in form Auld Sod could struggle to double up with a stiff penalty around this sharp C&D, but what’s going to beat him is the big question.
4.05 This looks a 3 way fight but Gregor may need a stiffer test and Trailboss carries the dreaded penalty . Beholden was a good 2nd in a decent novice hurdle splitting two very reliable yardsticks and has run well here before in a bumper .
½ pt win Beholden @ 2/1
Selected Royal Ascot- good to firm on this stiff and galloping track .
2.30 Arguably the top miler around Palace pier is a very watm order to land this Group 1, 2/5 ! and I suppose it’s hard to argue with that . The two O’Brien horses should fill the places but I’m happy to watch this one .
3.05 PREMIUM RACE
3.40 The Champion Sprint – The Kings Stand Stakes .
Last year’s winner Battash , who went 3 from 3 last season has a 6 pound buffer over anything else and despite rumours of a troubled preparation, is still hard to take on . There is a stack of early pace with US raider Maven , Ornate , Glamorous Anna, Que Amoro and Winter Power all sure to want to dominate and are drawn low to middle , giving the defending champion a smart draw in 9 . It’s very easy seeing the pace collapsing late on and the Champ can double up .
¾ pt win Battash @ 7/4
4.20 The group 1 St James Palace Stakes
Plenty of able and prolific classy types in this and a good gallop assured with Maximal and Namoos sure to go un , but most unlikely to stay there. The irish raider Poetic Flare landed the 2000 guineas with Lucky Vega not gar behind , which ,makes him the one to beat . There are a few dark horses in this , none more so than the unbeaten Mosthadef , 3 from 3 , but only ran on the all weather and soft turf .
½ pt win Poetic Flare @ 4/1
5.00 PREMIUM RACE
5.35 PREMIUM RACE
6.10 PREMIUM RACE
Selected Beverley – good to firm on this stiff and galloping track
6.05 The in form Key Look could have been drawn better in her first try at this stiff track and the rise in the weights wont help , but saying that , few here hold serious claim. Favourite Niece ran well when 3rd in a big field at Wetherby and can be forgiven a lesser effort at Hamilton on easy ground from a bad draw. She’s 3 pounds lower and from a good draw a lively longshot .
¼ pt ew Favourite Niece @ 22/1
6.40 A good quality Class 1 sprint and classy sprinter judicial goes for the hat-trick in this race but latest efforts not encouraging . The fav is Motagally who has a bit to prove at this level and I’d rather look elsewhere . The evergreen Caspian Prince , now a 12yo and one of my all time favourites, ran a blinder in a Donny handicap a few days ago , keeping on as determinedly as ever and failing just by a short head. He’s won over C&d before but reluctantly passed over in favour of another C&D specialist in Tarboosh , who was given an experimental prominent ride last time which failed miserably . This usual late player will have a strong pace to come off and can nail this late on .
½ pt win Tarboosh @ 4/1
7.10 Kylie Rules has a terrific record here but lost her way last season and since a wind op and a significant drop in the ratings has looked far more menacing . She was desperately unlucky last time when unable to get a clear run and this is far from deep .
¾ pt win Kylie Rules @ 7/2
7.40 Yukon Mission is 0 from 16 but has been 2nd 7 times and 3rd 6 times, so nobody would deny her a win but this trip on quick ground may well not suit , so may have to wait another day.
8.40 Despite the big field, few catch the eye and worth trying arguably the form horse in Clotherholme , who comes here on the back of 3 solid runs giving the impression a stiffer track would suit . Could be his day .
½ pt win Clotherholme @ 9/2
Selected Brighton – good to firm on this undulating , sharp and tricky track.
6.20 Amber Dew is the clear form horse but is making a bit of a meal of it trying to break her duck and I’d prefer a nice ew play on the tip . He handled this track well enough when running a decent race on quick ground , shaping very much that the longer trip would suit .
½ pt ew Noble Albert @ 8/1
6.50 Kindergarten Kop has done very well to land recent hat-trick , all coming here on fast ground at trip of 6, 7 & 8 furlongs ! He struggled on Saturday down In trip and is now high enough in the weights He’ll probably dispute with the in form veteran Doc Sportello , but this one has a rare run on turf and neither will be able to withstand a late thrust from Sir oliver , a close 3rd in a far better race last time and is dropped a bit in the weights.
¾ pt win Sir Oliver @ 7/4
8.20 The short priced fav is Regulator after his demolition job at Chepstow but is a stiff 5 pounds higher and this is a very different type of track . Finvarra ran well over C&D behind two reliable regulars here and gets the nod .
¼ pt win Finvarra @ 9/2
8.50 Bahia Star won well here on her comeback spin but a few questions to answer up in the weights and down in trip . River Wharfe is a most reliable soul who holds his form well despite frequent nudges up the ratings and was a close 3rd over C&d on quick ground and the winner has gone in since and can stay on the best .
½ pt win River Wharfe @ 5/1
