Today’s Fortune for a fiver
3 £1 doubles & £1 ew treble
Hurricane Helen 3.20 @ 7/2
Smokey Malone 6.15 @ 4/1
Daphne May 7.15 @ 13/2
Selected Bath – good ground on this sharp but stiff track
1.35 Twilight secret brings the best form to the table with two good 2nds , but both came on the all weather and as Prop Forward’s good debut 2nd came on the Salisbury mud , it makes ray Day , a good 2nd at Windsor , where the 3rd has done well since , a nice ew play from a good draw .
¼ pt ew Ray Day @ 7/1
2.10 The admirable Tundra is now on a testing mark in this competitive handicap as too is Plansina, another C&D winner . Sky Bright won well at Leicester last time at this trip beating Mille Miglia , who’s entitled to get much closer with a 4 pound pull but preference is for Natural Colour , a decent 3rd last time behind a couple of in form ones and stiffer track, slower ground will help .
½ pt win Natural Colour @ 10/3
2.45 Ridgeway very much had the run of the race from the front when successful here a few runs back , but was subsequently clobbered with a 10 pound hit . He’ll be front running today but an unlikely winner off this mark. The short priced fav is the lightly raced western Alliance on a fair mark on his handicap debut but quicker ground will test , and the same can be said about another front runners in Anmaat . Leroy Leroy holds his form well and this late player could surprise in a race probably run to suit .
¼ pt win Leroy Leroy @11/2
3.20 The short priced fav is the hat-trick seeking Yalinda but has a hefty 6 pound penalty for a recent win and had Hurricane Helen 6 lengths behind at Chepstow , and is now a massive 15 pounds worse off and his rival has since sluiced in over C&d and like her chance of the double .
½ pt win Hurricane Helen @ 7/2
4.30 It wasn’t that long ago that Brains was running big races off marks in the high 80’s , and here he is today off a mark of just 64, but there’s been a good reason for his plummeting mark as he hasn’t even threatened for some time . He returns after a break , which is no problem and has his first run after a wind op , and if close to his best , would win with ease , but is has he regressed irretrievably , we’ll soon find out .
¼ pt win Brains @ 11/2
Selected Brighton – good ground on this undulating , sharp and tricky track
1.52 A tricky opener with no shortage of early pace but the fav to lead is veteran Boom The Groom , who’s been holding his form well and crucially proven over C&D. The late playing Shamson has a good race make up but is now on a tough mark while recent sandown winner Street Parade has a stiff penalty and is 0 places from 3 tries here . Hard to rule out either Michael’s Choice or Second Collection but it’s the old guy for me.
¼ pt win Boom The Groom @ 11/2
3.00 C&D specialist Junoesque was all out to win last time so the 2pound penalty will test and wont have his preferred easy lead with Productive in the field. Hooves Like Jagger has a stiff task dropping in trip and up in the ratings while the longer trip wont help the penalised Beau Geste . Selecto has responded well to the drop in the ratings with a good 3rd last time coming off the pace and gets the nod .
¼ pt win Selecto @ 10/3
3.35 Course specialist Esspeegee comes here on the back of another good run over C&D when a good 2nd and despite the 2 pound hit, the drop in grade offers a big opportunity . Teemlucky could be the danger off a fair mark and this C&d may well suit .
¼ pt win Esspeegee @ 15/8
4.10 PREMIUM RACE
4.45 The reliable Eastern Star has a stiff task up in the ratings and on quicker ground and in a winnable heat the consistent Incorrigable could finally get her reward for some solid efforts , including over C&D .
¼ pt win Incorrigable @ 3/1
Selected Ponty – good to firm on this undulating , galloping and stiff track
2.00Not a deep race and the quicker ground is no help to the very hard to win with Possible Ambition. Johnny Boom’s hat-trick bid fell apart in the Beverley mud and on better ground can continue his progress .
¼ pt win Johnny Boom @ 2/1
2.35 The way Dr Youmzain’s been finishing his races casts grave doubts about him bounding up this very stiff finish . Of the others with experience , Make A Prophet improved last time giving the impression a stiffer task would suit well .
¼ pt ew Make A Prophet @ 9/1
3.10 The odds on fav is the mud loving Tashkaan , so off this stiff mark and quick turf , I much prefer the chance of the progressive and very tough Prince imperial, a gallant 2nd at Newmarket , so this stiff C&d shouldn’t be a problem . Military Two step is another with it to prove on quick ground and a stiff mark .
½ pt win Prince Imperial @ 11/2
3.45 The admirably consistent Six Strings is the short priced fav and mark certainly workable, ground fine as is the trip but has a rare try on a stiff trac , so preference for recent Newmarket winner First Dance , with just a small penalty and has won here before .
¼ pt win First Dance @ 11/2
4.20 The admirable Sands Chorus will make a right fist of it from the front but is just on too tough a mark . Few come here in top form which makes the consistent late playing Confrontational a nice ew play .
¼ pt ew Confrontational @ 7/1
4.55 Van Gerwen bounced back to form with a smart win over C&d last time and the 3 pound hit could have been far worse given how well he won, and this looks well winnable .
½ pt winVan Gerwen @ 3/1
5.30 PREMIUM RACE
Selected Yarmouth – good ground on this flat and galloping track
5.15 PREMIUM RACE
6.15 Mahanakhon power is on a tough enough mark and the drop in trip wont help, but does go well here . Aradena needs to run much better when 2nd in a modest heat at Bath , and on a very testing mark. Smokey Malone gets full marks for consistency and this hold up type has done well switching to quick turf up in trip . He was a facile winner at Nottingham ,but it wasn’t the best race ever . but did well here last time off this mark when over an even further trip . Mystic dragon put in a much improved run and it came over C&d last time when switched to hold up tactics and if reproducing that would be a big threat , but not renowned for consistency .
½ pt win Smokey Malone @ 4/1
6.45 Hard to split the determined and reliable Flying Standard , who’s up 2 pounds for not winning , Moonlit night , who could find this an insufficient test of stamina and the down in grade Pax Brittanica , who has run this C&D well enough to land this .
¼ pt win Pax Brittanica @ 4/1
7.15 The short priced fav is recent all the way Newmarket winner Sweet Enough but would do well to double up on what is just a fair mark, up in trip on a speed track and with at least 3 others sure to be battling away for early domination . The late playing Daphne May certainly knows how to win, 3 wins in just 8 starts and comes here on the back of a win at Windsor , coming strongly off the pace to win with something to spare and the 2nd horse has won since. The 3 pound hit could have been worse and has a cracking race make up .
½ pt win Daphne May @ 6/1
7.45 The lightly raced Cheshire Plain is with a top stable and was likely to come good at some stage and was an easy winner in the Lingfield mud. , the 5 pound hit , lift in grade and faster ground all pose questions . Flibbertygibbet won as he pleased last time over C&D and the 4 pound hit could have been worse and just gets the nod over International Angel , whose C&D win has plenty of substance to it , but is inconsistent .
¼ pt win Flibbertygibbert @ 5/2
8.15 There will be no hanging about here with the penalised recent C&D winner expert Opinion , World of Windover, Sir Rodneyredblood and Shesadabber all likely to bomb out which wont do any of their chances any good at all and this could be set up nicely for the late playing and in form Clashaniska, well capable off around this mark and this kind of C&D .
½ pt win Clashaniska @ 7/1
Selected Kempton – all weather – polytrack
5.25 The likeable Azets goes well here but has a bad draw , as does Poet’s Eye who has been showing up well . Oud Metha Bridge goes well over C&D and is on a good mark and the right grade nowadays. Doesn’t win many but good opportunity tonight .
¼ pt win Oud Metha Bridge @ 4/1
8.00 The penny certainly has dropped for Chai Yo power who comes here on a hat-trick and proven on the surface and trip but an 8 pound hit will surely test and I prefer a play on course specialist No Nay Bella , with narrow defeats here off around this mark .
¼ pt ew No Nay Bella @ 13/2
8.30 The lightly raced Vino Vitrix won as he pleased first time at this trip at Sandown and could be ahead of the game despite an 8 pound hit and has run well on this surface. The front running Al Kout is a regular here and has run some big races off higher marks . Has a rotten recent win record but hard to ignore at the odds.
¼ pt ew Al Kout @ 28/1
9.00 None of Impeach , Super Over or Motorious are necessarily shaping like winners about to happen so preference is for recent wolver winner Fort Madox Brown who followed that up with a creditable close 4th at York on fast turf off this mark . He has a polytrack win on his CV and has a very decent chance.
½ pt win Fort Madox Brown @ 3/1
