Selected Ascot – good to soft on this stiff and galloping track
The Annual Shergar Cup , a competition amongst jockeys representing different teams , but with the pandemic , no representation for Europe or Rest of the World , so just 3 teams today, GB , Ireland and the Girls . Usually tactics play a huge role in these races as each team is determined for the win .
12.50 The front running Desert Safari has been holding his form very well of late and has been generously dropped to a most workable mark . Nicely drawn to dominate up the favoured stands rails and despite their being a couple of hold up types in Stone of destiny and Tis Marvellous , who have won this race before and both come here in good form , both have become hard to win with .
½ pt win Desert Safari @ 7/2
1.25 There is no doubt that course winner Indianapolis is very well handicapped, now on a mark of 87 and last winning mark was 97 but his win record is pretty rotten , just 3 from 26 but does here looking a winner to happen and worth a dabble .
¼ pt win Indianapolis @ 4/1
2.00 A wide open event and as Sam Cooke and Group One power are both near the head of the market , Restorer ,who wasn’t far behind this pair last time and this consistent type certainly worth a dabble at long odds .
¼ pt ew Restorer @ 22/1
2,35 The lightly raced and progressive Dance Fever has a bit more to do with a 4 pound penalty and also going up in trip . The ultra reliable Dashing Roger is well drawn to take his preferred handy sit and remains on a workable mark . This kind of C&D and ground is both well suitable .Unlikely to be far away again .
½ pt ew Dashing Roger @ 9/2
3.45 PREMIUM RACE
Selected Haydock -soft ground on this flat and galloping track
1.50 The key factor is the ground and is most welcomed by the lightly raced Dragon’s Fire, a good winner in the Lingfield mud and just caught out late on by the stiff Newmarket finish last time , but not beaten far and as he’s been eased a few pounds on a more benign track , worth a dabble .
¼ pt win Dragon’s Fire @ 11/2
3.00 PREMIUM RACE
4.10 PREMIUM RACE
4.40 The 4 timer looks on for the admirably consistent Acquisitor , with just a 2 pound penalty and against rivals with it to prove in the mud.
½ pt win Acquisitor @ 15/8
Selected Newmarket – good to firm on this stiff and galloping track
2.50 Very hard to be sure about this Group 3 for juveniles as a few of these have been winning as they liked and are likely to be far better than their current rating . The fav is the reliable Wild Beauty , but the drying ground is no help and as Sunstrike finished alongside her at Sandown , worth a little ew .
¼ pt ew Sunstrike @ 6/1
3.25 A very open and good quality nursery and the fav is Fall Of Rome , 6 pounds higher for a recent C&D win, so this of course is a stiffer test . Blue Collar La ran a blinder at Goodwood off just a 2 pound lower mark but that came on easy ground and a very different type of track, but still well respected . This stiff C&D is unlikely to suit Neptune Legend but Uncs is another who cannot be left out of calculations . I’m trying Desert Angel, on a far mark in his first handicap and has run well here before .
¼ pt win Desert Angel @ 12/1
4.00 Very tricky stuff
4.30 This is very much there for the taking and understandably the in form Quintillius is the short priced fav , but looking at his profile , not the type to be taking short odds about .
5.00 You can give a chance to most but Sky Defender , Bugle Major and Classical Wave have all been struggling of late and You’re Hired is up in the ratings and trip . The faintest of nods is given to the resolute and capable off this mark Sir Rumi over another consistent type in The City’s Phantom , in good form on the ground , trip and mark .
¼ pt win Sir Rumi @ 11/4
5.30 Dancing Harry was a ready and resolute winner at Sandown last time and off just a 2 pound higher mark looks a most solid fav . He front runs and is up against a trio of hold up merchants. Should have a very easy time up front under Oisin Murphy .
½ pt win Dancing Harry @ 5/4
Selected Lingfield -all weather – polytrack
3 £1 doubles & £2 treble
Hellavapace 6.35 @ 2/1
Heptathlete 7.05 @ 3/1
Roccozaam 7.35 @ 6/4
6.05 Looks a likely match between Loquce and Manaafith , both 2nd last time out but on breeding , the surface and trip should be of more help for the former.
¼ pt win Loquace @ 3/1
6.35 A stiff task for yesterday’s runaway Brighton winner Adace with a hefty penalty switching to the all weather and from the worst of the draw. Hellavapace has gone mighty close in her last two , she’s proven on the surface and the drop in grade must help . Mark and trip both fine and preferred over Spirit Level , not racing with much conviction .
¾ pt win Hellavapace @ 2/1
7.05 Heptathlete is admirably consistent and has been holding her form well now on a tough mark . She’s well drawn and is a C&D winner and holds the aces here .
½ pt win Heptathlete @ 3/1
7.35 Former top jockey Daryll Holland has done well since going training ,especially with his 2yos and this drop in grade should well convert some decent placed efforts by Roccozaam , nicely drawn , a good 3rd in much higher grade at Kempton last time off this mark , so proven on the surface and trip and this wont take much winning .
½ pt win Roccozaam @ 6/4
8.05 Sir Rodneyblood is one of my favourites and his form figures reveal why, as he is rarely far away when conditions suit . He’s a tough and determined front runner and despite a wider draw than ideal , could well control this winnable finale from the front and be hard to pass.
¼ pt win Sir Rodneyredblood @ 5/1
Selected Ayr- currently good ground on this flat and galloping track, but rain forecast and ground likely to ease .
5.55 Linda Perrett has been reliving the glory days of late as she was a prolific trainer , especially here , over a decade ago, but now generally struggles for winners training mostly low grade handicappers , but all of Chinese Spirit , Lucky Violet and Retirement Beckons have all hit the mark , but have all had unwanted attention from the assessor . The tricky part of this race is that the vast majority are late players , including my pick , the consistent Flying Moon , who runs this C&d and remains on a workable mark in this company . Ground versatile but would need something to make this a true gallop early on .
¼ pt win Flying Moon @ 11/4
6.25 Most of these have lost the winning habit so worth trying youngster Fircombe Hall , a good winner at Catterick , but then disappointed at Carlisle when ticking plenty of boxes . To forgive is divine and worth another try in a winnable heat .
¼ pt win Fircombe Hall @ 7/1
6.55 PREMIUM RACE
7.55 A tricky race with the likes of Alsvinder , lord of The glen and Lola rebel all having claims , but a deterioration in the ground wouldn’t help any of these so I’m with the in form mud loving Rose Bandit, on a stiff enough mark now but has a win here on her CV .
½ pt win Rose Bandit @ 4/1
8.30 Tilsitt went close over C&D on soft ground last time in a rare pop in Class 5 , and will take some beating remaining in the grade in a most winnable finale . The drop in trip wont help the well handicapped front running King Of Tonga .
½ pt win Tilsitt @ 9/4
