Flash Collanges 2.05 @ 5/1
Getaway Trump 2.55 @ 5/1
golden taipan 2.30 @ 14/1
Some Chaos 4.05 @ 6/1
Selected Lingfield – all weather – polytrack
11.45 The trip is too far for both Al Suis Eile and Born to Finish, Luna Magic is just not firing while the well treated Glasvegas is on a long losing run and switches to polytrack. This leaves us with recent Wolver winner Visibility , who won well but the 6 pound hit looks excessive and the dual C&d winner Dutugamunu , who is 4 pounds higher for his recent C&d win but is still preferred in a most winnable opener .
¾ pt win Dutugamunu @ 9/4
12.15 The odds on fav is recent facile C&d winner Ahdab , but that came in a modest maiden and previously was only 2nd over C&D off a massive 7 pound lower than today , so looks a vulnerable odds on shot . Tintoretto is in his usual consistent form but has cut little ice in two tries here so the nod goes to the consistent Rogue tide , effective over C&D and on a fair mark .
¼ pt ew Rogue Tide @ 13/2
12.50 The well drawn Thegreyvtrain will attempt to make all but is a bit high in the weights and will probably get little rest up front from other prominent racers . There is little between the luckless Hey Ho Let’s Go, Big time Maybe and King Robert on recent C&d form but I prefer the chance of the downgraded Shining , who was behind the other three recently over C&d but has the worst of the draw and much better berthed today .
¼ pt win Shining @ 11/2
1.25 A very good quality Class 2 sprint and easy to read with the flying Ornate sure to try and make all and despite a tricky mark is not ruled out but does paddle a bit late on and there ae some useful late players in this The bang in form Tone The Barone is the short priced fav and much respected but is now on a tough mark so preference is for the revitalised Blue de Vega who took off good style last season landing a hat-trick and holding his form very well throughout the season . He recently resumed duties with a big run over C&D in a Class 1 sprint , held up for a telling late charge . He’ll be straighter for that run and with an ideal strong pace to chase and a useful 7 pound claimer in the saddle, is the pick .
½ pt win Blue De Vega @ 5/1
2.36 An interesting Class 1 event in that there are a number of unexposed and highly promising contenders and the fav is El drama, who has a lot to find with a few of these on bare form , but won on his debut in some style and remains in the category of could be anything . All of Apollo One , Magellan and Thank You Next have good form in the book but I’m trying another unexposed type in To The Bar , who’s won his last two in style and is another who could be anything .
¼ pt ew To The Bar @ 8/1
2.36 Breath if Sun won well over C&D on debut and is odds on for this but If You Dare is a likely newcomer and better can be expected of Zwelea .
3.11 The ex-French Almost You was very well supported on his first try for this upwardly mobile stable with a facile win and the double looks on with a fair penalty .
½ pt win almost You @ 5/4
3.46 The Sir Mark Prescott stable is now stranger for preparing horse for handicaps off a lowly mark then rattling off a sequence and the 5 timer seeing Caribeno is very much in this mould but at the odds, the back to form Chocolate Box is worth a dabble at long odds and the fav’s bubble has to burst eventually .
¼ pt ew Chocolate Box @ 10/1
Selected Kelso – good to soft on this quite sharp and undulating track with a galloping straight .
1.30 on drying ground and this trip, clear preference for the useful Any News as main rivals in My drogo and lucky One both show best form on softer ground .
½ pt win Any News @ 16/5
2.05 I was very much with Torn and Frayed when he landed a modest event in the Hereford Mud in style but the 7 pound penalty looks a stopper as does the drying ground. Hard to fancy many in this and despite his opening mark looking a little high, the ground and trip are very much in the favour of the lightly raced Flash Collanges who runs for the top stable of Paul Nicholls .
¾ pt win Flash Collanges @ 5/1
2.40 A good quality Class 1 chase and the Grand National favourite Cloth Cap has his prep run but would do extremely well to win at level weights with higher rated rivals , but at least the ground and trip are in his favour . The admirable Aso is the one to beat at the weights and should be fine at the trip on this easy track .
¾ pt win Aso @ 9/4
3.15 PREMIUM RACE
3.50 The short priced fav is the in form éclair D’ainay but the penalty and drying ground both against him which gives the race a most open look .
Selected Newbury – good ground on this flat and galloping track
12.40 eaton Hill lost his latest race in the Stewards Room weighing in 3 pounds light but did win his race convincingly suggesting the weight had little impact . Drying ground not ideal but few can be fancied in this and they always say to back a disqualified horse next time .
½ pt win Eaton Hill @ 6/1
1.15 PREMIUM RACE
2.30 Tegerek has been odd in his last few races, vey unruly at the start at Cheltenham but when going , he ran a cracker and has been withdrawn in his last two races refusing to go the start ! He’s had a 4 months break and if they’ve ironed out those problems , he should run another big race Proschema is the short priced fav on the strength of this former useful flat horse landing a brace of jumper bumpers but this is very different kettle of fish . The Consistent golden Taipan also landed a jumper bumper last time very well at long odds when tipped up by yours truly and he’s on a good mark and will relish the better ground and is a most lively longshot .
½ pt ew Golden Taipan @ 14/1
3.05 Despite the big field few come into this screaming to be backed but many are trying handicapping for the first time so a few could come out of the woodwork . Take It Easy was a smart winner in his first handicap on good ground and was just given too much to do when a close 6th in a big field competitive Cheltenham Handicap and will do for me .
½ pt win Take It Easy @ 9/2
Selected Donny- good ground on this flat and galloping track
1.45 Not a deep opener and the bookies make it a match between the in form pair of hydroplane , who is now on a stiff mark and lively Citizen who’s run two big races at Cheltenham of late but this is a very different track and drying ground an issue . I’m prepared to take them on with the lightly raced Ginistrelli, a decent flat horse who ran well in two novice events in the Summer on good ground giving him a squeak at the weights .
¼ pt win Ginistrelli @ 11/1
2.20 PREMIUM RACE
2.55 The well handicapped C&D winner Ballywood has his ground but is just not firing and off a decent mark the in firm Getaway Trump looks good on ground he’ll relish , the same can’t be said for the mud loving Rikoboy .
¾ pt win Getaway Trump @ 4/1
3.30 Camelo is the one to beat but 6/4 unappealing .
4.05 Some Chaos has been in terrific form over fences and goes very well on good ground . He switches to hurdles off a massive 20 pound lower mark and has to be of great interest off that mark in a winnable heat .
¾ pt win Some Chaos @ 6/1
4.40 Not a deep novice event and as Buzz de Turcing has a strong preference for softer ground , the coast looks clear for good ground pointer kildimo after a couple of good runs in novice hurdles , but at 5/4 I can pass .
Selected Southwell- all weather – fibresand
5.30 Delph Crescent is 2 from 2 over C&D and is only 2 pounds higher for a good win over prolific track specialist Daabr, when the tip couldn’t lead but showed that he just as effective coning off the pace . The in form Howzer Black likes to front run and ran well when 3rd in his only try here, but it wasn’t the deepest of races. Both Thrave and Bold Angel are C&D winners but the former has been helped of late by being partnered by an 7 pound claimer who is absent today and this grade is a bit high for Bold Angel .
¾ pt win Delph Crescent @ 11/4
7.00 Legal Reform was a clear winner overC&D last time , first try in a handicap , but the assessor has taken no chances issuing a stiff 6 pound fine . Borsdane Wood takes a drop in grade and ran well over C&d a few starts back and despite a wide draw is preferred to the hard to win pair of Portuguese Princess and Love your Work and the penalised Equidae .
¼ pt ew Borsdane Wood @ 7/1
7.30 Only 3 go and Bill Cody goes for the track hat-trick off just a 2 pound higher mark. Main rival is recent winner Kangaroo Point but unproven on the surface and the stable’s record here is most modest .
¾ pt win Bill Cody @ 6/5
8.00 Full marks to Susie Javea who recently landed a C&D hat-trick but now on a tough mark and the 1 box is never the place to be unless you can get and lead which will be tough with other front runners in the field . Van Dijk has a terrific record here and he is often outpaced but comes with a whirlwind finish and with a strong pace assured, like his chance of cutting through the pack .
½ pt ew Van Dyck @ 9/1
